What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Energy Systems Modeling position at Energy, Planning and Inventory Commission (EPIC)?
We're building something new in Kentucky. The Kentucky Energy Planning and Inventory Commission (EPIC) is seeking a Director of Energy Systems Modeling to lead the technical analysis that will help inform Kentucky's long-term energy planning.
This position will develop and oversee modeling related to electric demand forecasting, resource adequacy, generation planning, transmission, and the impacts of emerging technologies and large industrial loads. The work will directly support statewide energy planning and provide objective technical analysis on some of Kentucky's most important energy challenges.
We're looking for someone with experience in electric system modeling, integrated resource planning, production cost modeling, transmission planning, or related fields.

Qualifications
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including experience with energy systems modeling, load forecasting, or reliability analysis.
- Proficiency with relevant software and tools such as statistical packages, modeling platforms, and spreadsheet-based analysis.
- Knowledge of electric power systems, generation technologies, transmission and distribution concepts, and energy market fundamentals.
- Ability to synthesize complex technical information into clear written reports, visualizations, and presentations for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Effective collaboration and communication skills to work with interdisciplinary teams, external stakeholders, and decision-makers.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (e.g., electrical, mechanical, energy), applied sciences, or a related field; an advanced degree or relevant professional certification is preferred.
- Experience in utility planning, regulatory environments, or public-sector energy analysis is beneficial, especially within regional or state-level contexts.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and apply sound judgment in a public-interest, policy-focused setting.
