Energy Land & Infrastructure (ELI) continues to expand, and we are currently seeking a responsible, highly motivated, and detail-oriented individual capable of working independently and primarily working on projects in the Raleigh, NC area. This position has opportunity for advancement for the individual willing to learn the skills and technology required.

The Crew Chief may work independently or coordinate and direct survey crew members to ensure field surveys are completed to the standards of practice for land surveying, and within budgetary and time constraints. Work will include all aspects of land surveying including boundary surveys, route surveys, pipeline surveys, topographic surveys, construction layout, as-built surveys, and aerial (UAS/drone) surveying. The Crew Chief is an integral part of the project team, will communicate with senior leadership within the company, and communicates directly with clients.

This position will primarily work as a one-man crew and may be assisted with a technician when required. Pipeline experience and familiarity with as-built process is highly preferred. Travel to projects within a 2-hour radius can be expected and if overnight stays are required, a per-diem will be provided. The position will report to our Raleigh, NC office and occasional project support for surrounding states or other ELI offices may be required but is not expected as a regular occurrence. Essential tasks with this position include the following.

  • Oversees the daily field operations of a one-, two- or three-man survey crew.
  • Survey data collection using GNSS, robotic, or conventional methods in accordance with corporate and/or client standards.
  • Determines most efficient plan of action for data acquisition for a variety field survey.
  • Accurately documents work performed and sketches.
  • Communicates daily with Survey Manager regarding project schedule and work progress.
  • Collaborates with the Survey Team to determine the most efficient plan of action for data acquisition for a variety field survey.
  • Interacts professionally with client representatives and landowners.
  • Reads and interprets engineering plans and construction drawings/specifications and understands all aspects of the project specifications and tolerances.
  • Prepares daily reports, time sheets, and other required paperwork.
  • Recruits, manages, trains, and mentors Sr. Survey Technicians and Survey Technicians.
  • Maintains vehicle and field equipment.
  • Occasional out-of-town work.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Travel will be expected and must be able to work overtime. This position will require the applicant to work in outdoor conditions and must be able to lift and carry survey equipment.

Education/Experience Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent
  • The ideal candidate will possess a 2 or 4-year degree in surveying, engineering, construction management, or a related field (Preferred but not required)
  • 5 years of experience in the field management of land surveying projects and crews
  • LSIT or Certified Survey Technician III / IV (CST III/IV) (Preferred but not required)
  • FAA Part 107 sUAS Remote Pilot Certification (Preferred but not required)
  • Experience using Trimble equipment (Preferred but not required)
  • Experience with Autodesk Civil 3D (Preferred but not required)
  • Proficient with business software (Outlook, Excel, and Word)
  • Knowledge of surveying principles, methods, and field procedures
  • Understand/follow directions and a willingness to learn
  • Strong communication skills

Other Information:

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs., walk for extended periods of time in all types of terrain

Schedule:

  • Full time
  • Monday to Friday (possible weekends)
  • Overtime available

Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
