Energy Capital Cooperative Childcare Center is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and passionate leader to serve as our next Program Director.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to make a lasting impact on children, families, and the community while leading a well-established nonprofit childcare center. The Program Director is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, and daily operations of the center, ensuring the highest standards of care while maintaining compliance with all licensing and regulatory requirements.
This is a hands-on leadership position. The Program Director is expected to maintain a visible presence within the center, provide day-to-day leadership and support to staff, build positive relationships with families, and oversee the daily operations of the organization. This position is fully onsite and requires regular attendance at the childcare center during normal business hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the overall operations of the childcare center.
- Supervise, mentor, and support a dedicated team of early childhood professionals.
- Ensure compliance with all North Dakota licensing requirements and applicable regulations.
- Partner with the Board of Directors to implement strategic goals and provide operational updates.
- Work closely with the center's contracted CPA to oversee budgeting, financial reporting, payroll coordination, grant administration, CCAP, CACFP, and organizational financial health.
- Foster positive relationships with children, families, staff, community partners, and regulatory agencies.
- Maintain a safe, high-quality environment for children and employees.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet the qualifications required for a North Dakota Child Care Center Director, including one of the following:
- A bachelor's degree in early childhood education or child development; or
- A bachelor's degree with at least six months of experience in a child care center or similar setting and one of the following:
- Eight semester hours or twelve quarter hours of department-approved early childhood education or child development;
- 120 hours of department-approved early childhood training; or
- A department-approved Director Credential.
- An associate's degree in early childhood education or child development with at least six months of experience in a child care center or similar setting; or
- An associate's degree with at least one year of experience in a child care center or similar setting and one of the qualifications listed above; or
- A teaching certificate in elementary education with at least six months of experience in a child care center or similar setting; or
- A current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or successful completion of a department-approved diploma program with an emphasis in early childhood or child care, along with at least one year of experience in a child care center or similar setting; or
- Certification from a Montessori teacher training program with at least one year of experience in a Montessori school, child care center, or similar setting, along with the required early childhood coursework, training, or Director Credential.
The successful candidate must also maintain all licensing requirements, required certifications, annual training, background checks, and continuing education required under North Dakota child care licensing regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Leadership or management experience in an early childhood education or nonprofit setting.
- Experience supervising and developing staff.
- Experience working with budgets, financial reports, and contracted accounting services.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- A commitment to professionalism, accountability, integrity, and building positive relationships with children, families, and staff.
