POSITION SUMMARY: An EPIC Exercise Specialist provides fundamental wellness services to EPIC members. The Exercise Specialist is responsible for the safety, design, implementation, facilitation, and education of EPIC fitness programming. Exercise programming should meet the fitness goals of individual members while empowering members to express their choices, needs, and interests. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Exercise Programming:1. Develop an exercise program for members with intellectual, developmental, and/or physical disabilities based on member’s individual choice, safety, fitness level, fitness assessment, and personal goals.2. Conduct fitness assessments at new member onboarding and quarterly to ensure maintenance and/or progress of physical activity.3. Instructs, demonstrates, and coaches members with appropriate exercises, while always maintaining safety. Must be able to lift or rerack weights up to 55 pounds.4. Assist members as needed during the scheduled time at EPIC. Program Compliance: 1. Accurately documents member activities exercise and data into appropriate databases.2. Recognize and abide by the Federal, State, and DDDS requirements. 3. Maintains necessary licenses, state required competencies, required training competencies and certifications.4. Assist executive director, program director, staff and members in other tasks deemed appropriate and necessary.5. Pursue self-development that enhances job performance. SAFETY:Read, understand, and be prepared to act upon all safety requirements within the program areas. QUALIFICATIONS:Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in one of the following areas:· Associate degree or higher in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, or related field.Or· Equivalent work experience in fitness, sports, or other types of structured physical activity. Or· Certification in Personal Training or Group Fitness preferred. Company DescriptionEndless Possibilities in the Community (EPIC) is a non-profit organization that supports adults 18 years and older with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities, most who are clients of the State of Delaware’s Division of Developmental Disability Services. EPIC was established in 2014 to address the lack of inclusive wellness and fitness programming available once individuals graduated from or aged out of school age programs and enter into adult services. Based out of the Bear-Glasgow Family YMCA, EPIC’s “no walls” inclusive wellness and fitness program improves the physical and mental health of its program participants by focusing on the individual while providing community-based fitness programming. EPIC also provides individuals the opportunity to connect with others, creating a social environment.
