Job Title: Advocate
Classification: Full-time and hourly, non-exempt under FLSA
Preferred Education and Experience: Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Women’s Studies or related field. Equivalent experience will be considered. Work Experience with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, abuse later in life, elder abuse, or other violent crimes; or a willingness to learn trauma focused advocacy.
Expected Hours of Work: Monday through Friday between 8:00 am-5:00 pm; some nights and weekends

Supervisor: Program Coordinator & Deputy Director of Shelter
Summary of Functions:
Provide advocacy and crisis intervention services to domestic violence and sexual assault victims and their families to include supportive services, community referrals, court advocacy and assistance with personal protection orders, client transportation, and advocating for clients within other agencies.
Key Advocacy Responsibilities:
- Provide crisis intervention, referrals, safety planning, transportation, and networking and collaborating services to and for survivors and their children
- Provide clients with court, hospital, and law enforcement accompaniment as requested
- Maintain client files and data necessary for statistical collection
- Assist in meeting grant deliverables and reporting
- Assist in maintenance and cleaning of EVE, Inc. vehicles
- Assist in stocking of client supplies and educational materials
- Communicate with other Victim Advocates to ensure clients are receiving regular, appropriate assistance
- Attend all staff meetings, in-service training, and job-related trainings
- Network/collaborate with other agencies and community partners
- Maintain all aspects of confidentiality, as stated under the Violence Against Women Act
- Provide crisis line coverage once per pay period
- Provide SANE 24-hour response, as needed
- Mentor and supervise program interns
- Perform other duties as defined and requested
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or Sociology or in a related field or 3 years of experience in a related field
- Understanding of issues and dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and knowledge of issues involved in working with diverse populations and organizations
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while also working as a member of a team
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with other professionals, agencies, schools, and the public
- Organized, detail oriented, and flexible. Able to identify and respond to shifting priorities
- Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects
- Excellent organizational, communication (verbal and written), and problem solving skills
- Proficient computer skills
- Flexible hours, e.g. some evenings and weekends for outreach, crisis line coverage, or 24-hour SANE response
Requirements:
- Attend New Service Provider Trainer within first 90 days
- Attend domestic violence and sexual assault training annually
- Attend MiVann Crime Victim Rights and Compensation and Confidentiality Training
- Attend First Aid Training annually
- Travel throughout Ingham, Eaton, and Clinton Counties
- Possess a valid Michigan driver’s license and automobile insurance
- Must be able to lift 35 lbs
- Must be able to use stairs

Deemed suitable to work with minors
Finger printing
Possess a valid Michigan Driver’s License
