Position Overview

The Grounds/Equipment Operator is responsible for maintaining Endicott College's buildings, grounds, and equipment. This role performs a variety of tasks, including landscaping, snow removal, assisting with event setup and breakdown, handling routine maintenance and minor repairs, and completing work orders. The position contributes to a functional, safe, and welcoming campus environment. Flexibility, problem-solving skills, and a collaborative approach are essential to success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

• Performs grounds maintenance tasks, including planting trees and shrubs, mowing lawns, trimming hedges, and collecting leaves to keep the campus looking its best.
• Clears snow and ice from parking lots, walkways, and other areas to keep pathways safe and accessible.
• Assists with setup, breakdown, and cleanup for events and functions, ensuring timely and efficient service.
• General laborer work includes moving and arranging furniture, equipment, and supplies as needed, in accordance with safety guidelines.
• Completes minor repairs and maintenance projects as assigned or in response to work orders.
• Troubleshoots and performs minor repairs on equipment to keep it operating properly.
• Picks up trash and disposes of waste daily to keep the environment clean and safe.
• Performs miscellaneous tasks and assignments as directed to support departmental operations.
• Participates in the on-call rotation policy to address urgent needs and emergencies.
• Performs other duties as needed to support department and campus goals.

Community Engagement

• Be an active participant in the life of the College by attending and supporting key events like Commencement, Homecoming, and other all-hands-on-deck gatherings. Show a spirit of collaboration and community involvement, including volunteering when possible.

Qualifications and Skills

• A minimum of two years of experience in facilities operations, grounds maintenance, or general repair work, preferably in a college or institutional environment.
• Proven reliability, a strong work ethic, and a consistent record of meeting job commitments and deadlines.
• Demonstrated ability to provide responsive, professional customer service while maintaining a positive, helpful attitude during interactions with students, staff, and visitors.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in performing tasks and completing documentation.
• Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team while remaining accountable for individual performance.
• Ability to work overtime or flexible hours in response to events or emergency situations.
• Practical skills and knowledge to perform assigned tasks effectively.
• Adaptability and a positive approach to handling varied responsibilities.
• A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to climb ladders, lift up to 50 lbs., and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Knowledge of day-to-day operations in a college environment.
• Must provide proof of a valid Mass. driver's license and a current DOT medical form annually.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Department of Public Safety Hoisting License.

In compliance with Massachusetts pay transparency law, the hourly pay range for this position is $22.60–$25.00 per hour. Endicott College considers factors such as (but not limited to) job responsibilities, relevant experience, skills, internal equity, and external market data when determining pay. The final hourly rate is determined by the Human Resources Office based on these factors. This range reflects base pay only and does not include benefits or other compensation.
