Unit Lead -- (The Arch)

JOB PURPOSE:

The unit lead ensures proper supervision and appropriate behavioral limits of clients and shelter staff by taking reasonable action to carry out responsibilities and ensuring the safety and well- being of each client in accordance with federal or state standards and requirements.

Qualifications:

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise and support shelter staff during assigned shifts, ensuring coverage and adherence to policies.
  • Monitor shelter environment for safety, security, and resident well-being.
  • Serve as the on-duty point of contact for staff, residents, and visitors.
  • Coordinate unit schedules, shift changes, and staff assignments as directed by Shelter Manager.
  • Provide guidance and support to residents in navigating shelter routines and services.
  • Respond to resident concerns, grievances, and behavioral issues with fairness and consistency.
  • Support case managers and peer specialists by reinforcing housing and recovery goals with residents.
  • Assist in crisis intervention and de-escalation when necessary.
  • Conduct routine walkthroughs of units to ensure cleanliness, safety, and adherence to shelter rules.
  • Monitor resident check-ins, occupancy logs, and unit assignments.
  • Complete shift reports, incident reports, and other required documentation accurately and promptly.
  • Ensure emergency and security protocols are followed.
  • Mentor and support staff in applying trauma-informed and housing-first approaches.
  • Provide on-the-job training for new staff.
  • Elevate performance or behavioral concerns to Shelter Management.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and a professional, compassionate work culture.
  • Act as liaison between front-line staff and management during shift.
  • Communicate shift updates, resident concerns, and incidents to Shelter Manager in a timely manner.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and program development.
  • Effectively communicate behavioral expectations and program regulations to clients and enforce compliance with regulations and expectations by all clients assigned to the staff as per all written orders given and approved by the Shelter Manager.
  • Monitor and supervise a client’s behavior on shelter activities providing direction and re-direction when needed to ensure safety.
  • Document all serious incidents, daily progress, changes in menus and activities completely, accurately in a timely manner and in compliance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Model behaviors and social skills that are consistent with organization and program policies.
  • Meet all federal and state regulatory guidelines and standards that are applicable to this position.
  • Monitor, coordinate and delegate daily operations as needed throughout the shift.
  • Maintain documentation required by this position and ensure documentation required by the administrator on duty's and direct care staff are completed in accordance with contractual and regulatory requirements and standards and agency policies and procedures.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: 

 

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED required.

 

EXPERIENCE: Minimum 2 years of experience in shelter, residential, or human services setting; prior lead or supervisory experience preferred.

 

ATTENDANCE: Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in the employer’s sole discretion.

 

LICENSES: Driver’s License with clear record.

 

VEHICLE: Must have daily use of a vehicle without prior notice.

 

WORK LOCATION: In-Person

 

OTHER: Must be available and willing to travel to various locations and with such frequency as the business need dictates.
