- Nights: 6:30 PM – 6:30 AM

- 24-bed Medical-Surgical ICU
- Average daily census: ~18 patients
- Patient mix:
- Approximately 50% post-surgical patients
- General surgery
- Trauma (Level II Trauma Center)
- ENT
- Plastic surgery
- Vascular surgery
- Complex medical ICU patients
- Hospital services include:
- Cardiac surgery
- Neurosurgery
- Level II Trauma designation
- Staffing model:
- 24/7 in-house intensivist coverage
- Robust APC support on both day and night shifts
- Strong multidisciplinary collaboration with nursing, pharmacy, respiratory therapy, and consulting services
- Provide comprehensive critical care management for Medical-Surgical ICU patients
- On night shift cross cover Medical and Cardiac ICU emergencies (Cardiac ICU is a separate ICU with its own intensivist team and APCs though at night has APC coverage only, and this job will include fielding some phone calls on new admissions and overnight emergencies.)
- Perform patient evaluations including history, physical examination, diagnostic interpretation, and treatment planning
- Manage post-operative and medically complex critically ill patients
- Collaborate closely with surgical services, consulting specialists, and APC colleagues
- Supervise and support APCs and ICU nursing staff
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and care coordination
- Exercise independent medical judgment in all aspects of patient care
- Order and interpret diagnostic studies, procedures, and therapeutic interventions
- Prescribe medications and evidence-based ICU therapies
- Document all patient care accurately and timely in Epic
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and patient safety efforts
- Contribute to teaching and education of staff, trainees, and learners as assigned
- Engage in ongoing professional development and continuing medical education
- EMR: Epic
- MD or DO (Internal Medicine, Pulmonary/Critical Care, Anesthesia, Surgery, or Emergency Medicine with sub-specialty certification in Critical Care Medicine)
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Critical Care Medicine
- Active Illinois medical license (or ability to obtain)
- Current DEA registration
- ACLS certification
- Strong teamwork, communication, and clinical leadership skills
- Per diem positions are not eligible for benefits.
