Job description:
We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to lead property‑level accounting operations for a commercial real estate portfolio. This role oversees financial reporting, monthly close, treasury functions, budgeting, and coordination with property management teams. The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting skills, experience managing teams or third‑party resources, and a track record of improving processes and controls.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement institutional processes, controls, and reporting standards for property accounting
- Review and approve monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, bank reconciliations, and CAM reconciliations
- Oversee accounts payable, including operating and capital expenditures, utilities, and property tax payments
- Manage treasury functions: cash flow monitoring, funding needs, intercompany activity, and approval of checks and wires
- Review owner distribution calculations and approve disbursements
- Partner with Property Managers to resolve AR issues, tenant billing, delinquencies, and rent collection
- Assist with annual budgets and financial forecasts; analyze performance vs. projections
- Coordinate with corporate accounting on bad debt analysis and CAPEX accruals
- Collaborate with property managers, asset managers, and internal teams to resolve financial issues and support decision‑making
- Train and oversee third‑party property accounting teams and internal staff
- Ensure GAAP compliance and support internal/external audits
- Drive continuous process improvements and leverage accounting technologies (MRI, Avid, banking platforms)
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA preferred
- 5 years of property accounting or real estate accounting experience
- Experience managing teams or external accounting resources
- Strong understanding of GL, CAM, budgeting, forecasting, and monthly reporting
- Experience with MRI or similar real estate accounting systems
- Excellent communication, organization, and time‑management skills
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work collaboratively across departments
