Role Description The Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician is a full-time, on-site role based in Thousand Oaks, CA. This role is responsible for the safe and efficient decontamination, cleaning, inspection, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of medical instruments and devices according to established protocols, manufacturer guidelines, and regulatory standards. The technician will organize, label, and distribute processed instruments, maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles, and monitor equipment performance to ensure quality and compliance. Day-to-day tasks include working closely with clinical staff to understand instrument needs, prioritizing workflow, managing inventory, and identifying instruments that require repair or replacement. The technician will also help maintain a clean and safe work environment, participate in ongoing training, and contribute to continuous improvement of sterile processing procedures.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge and practical experience in decontamination and sterilization processes, including appropriate use of cleaning agents, equipment, and quality controls.
- Understanding of infection control principles and standards to prevent cross-contamination and ensure patient and staff safety.
- Familiarity with operating room procedures and workflows, and the ability to anticipate instrument needs based on scheduled cases.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology to accurately identify, assemble, and track instruments and devices.
- Attention to detail, ability to follow standardized procedures, and commitment to regulatory compliance (e.g., AAMI, Joint Commission, CDC guidelines).
- Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and move instrument trays, and work safely with heat, chemicals, and sterilization equipment.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with technicians, clinical staff, and management in a fast-paced environment.
- Prior experience in sterile processing, central services, or related healthcare support role preferred; certification (e.g., CRCST or CSPDT) is a plus.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training in sterile processing or healthcare support strongly beneficial.
