DREDGE SHIFT ENGINEER - Rivers & Lakes Region (AL, LA, MS, FL)

This position will require frequent travel and reliable transportation, this position is not for a live on dredge. Employees are provided with per diem to cover their own lodging expense. 

We are seeking a highly qualified candidate for the position of Dredge Shift Engineer who can meet the requirements. Please review the following requirements carefully before applying. Only applicants with verifiable experience and qualifications should apply. This position requires experience in dredging, in the engine room.

Applicants must meet all the listed qualifications to be considered for the position. Those who cannot meet these requirements will not be considered. Candidates will be required to demonstrate their ability to meet and perform these requirements upon hire. Incomplete applications will not be considered. 

The Shift Engineer is responsible for the care and maintenance of the engine room, tools, and machinery on the dredge and assisting the chief.  They are also responsible for the care and maintenance of any other equipment on the job and performing the duties prescribed by the chief, captain, and deck captain.

• We do not provide transportation; this is the employee's responsibility.  
• You will be assigned to dredges based on the company's operational needs. We are unable to make accommodations based on an employee's home location. While we strive to accommodate requests, when possible, but we cannot guarantee such accommodations will be made.
• This is not for a live-on dredge. We provide per diem, and employees are responsible for their lodging and meals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (THIS IS NOT ALL-INCLUSIVE)

• Upholds the Company’s commitment to an injury-free workplace; leads and models safe work practices 
• Follows all safety rules and regulations as well as all company policies and procedures 
• Works safely around machinery; observes and instructs others in proper equipment use; uses/wears all required PPE
• Inspects dredge and engine room every hour on the hour, logs readings and findings in engine room log, and reports any abnormal findings to the chief and captain
• Inspects bilges and pump holes every hour as well as inspecting void tanks every 6 hours
• Makes rounds every hour to record engine readings
• Takes fuel soundings every 6 hours with water paste
• Takes weekly inventory of filters, supplies, and spare parts
• Monitors and maintains all fluid levels on the dredge in day tanks, fuel tanks, engines gearboxes, and cooler
• Switches fuel valves as needed to keep dredge level
• Maintains a log to record what is removed from the pump each time the pump is cleaned
• Logs hourly readings on booster pump and calculates daily fuel usage
• Reports issues and corrects deficiencies on the booster pump
• Inspects all safety equipment aboard the dredge at each shift
• Inspects and logs all parts, supplies, and materials brought to the dredge
• Makes repairs to dredge and consults with chief or captain before making repairs that will require a shutdown
• Assists chief and outside mechanic with repairs as needed
• Changes oil filters, fuel filters, and air filters
• Maintains maintenance records and records of all repairs
• Greases shives, spuds, ladders, winches, and pumps.  Takes oil samples on the 1st of every month on all engines in the fleet

 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• High School degree or equivalent
• Three (3) or more years of experience as a Shift Engineer
• Excellent safety and mechanical skills
• Ability to meet physical requirements of the position as outlined in the Functional Job Description
• Must be able to successfully pass all pre-employment testing (drug test, fit test) in addition to random drug and alcohol testing
• Must be authorized to work in the US. This position is not eligible for a work VISA sponsorship.

SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION

• Weekly pay, one week in arrears
• Four weeks on, with two weeks off (28/14). Depending on the company's specific needs, there is an opportunity to work additional weeks.
• Standard work hours are typically 12 hours daily; however, adjustments may be made depending on the operational requirements.
• This is an FLSA, Non-Exempt position, meaning any hours worked over 40 in the same work week will be compensated as overtime.
