Structural Project Design Engineer – Bridge & Infrastructure (Precast / Prestressed Concrete)

Salary: $85,000 – $115,000 per year

Build Infrastructure That Lasts

EnCon United is a national leader in PCI-certified precast concrete manufacturing, supplying engineered structural systems across more than 20 states. Our Colorado operations support major transportation and infrastructure projects, including DOT bridge components, prestressed girders, deck systems, and structural precast elements.

We are seeking a Project Design Engineer with infrastructure and bridge experience to lead engineering execution on transportation-focused projects. This role is ideal for engineers who understand DOT compliance, prestressed systems, and the practical realities of plant production and field erection.

Position Overview

The Structural Project Design Engineer serves in responsible charge of engineering for assigned bridge and infrastructure projects. This includes structural analysis, prestressed member design, connection design, calculation development, and coordination with detailing, production, and field teams.

This is a hands-on technical role requiring independent engineering judgment and the ability to navigate DOT/CDOT standards, submittals, and review processes.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design and analyze prestressed and precast concrete bridge components including:
  • Bridge girders (I-girders, box beams, bulb tees)
  • Deck panels
  • Pier caps and abutment caps
  • Structural precast systems for transportation infrastructure
  • Perform structural analysis and develop sealed calculation packages
  • Design and analyze connections in accordance with PCI, AASHTO, and DOT standards
  • Prepare consolidated calculation packages for agency and internal review
  • Coordinate with detailing teams to ensure constructable, production-ready designs
  • Review DOT/CDOT plans, specifications, and submittal requirements
  • Respond to agency comments and coordinate revisions
  • Collaborate with plant and field personnel to optimize handling, transportation, and erection procedures
  • Support project budgets and engineering schedules
  • Mentor junior engineers and detailers within the department

Required Qualifications:

  • 4 years of precast/prestressed concrete design experience
  • Direct experience with DOT/CDOT bridge projects
  • Strong understanding of AASHTO specifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Ability to obtain FE or PE within 12 months (PE strongly preferred)
  • Experience with PCI standards and plant production coordination
  • Proficiency with structural analysis software and Autodesk applications (Revit, BIM Collaborate Pro, Autodesk Construction Cloud)
  • Strong technical communication skills

Preferred Experience:

  • Bridge girder design and prestress force calculations
  • Transportation infrastructure project submittals
  • Experience working in or directly with PCI-certified manufacturing facilities
  • Project management exposure (budgeting, scheduling, coordination)

Why This Role Stands Out

This position offers exposure to high-impact transportation infrastructure projects with real structural complexity — not repetitive commercial layouts. Engineers in this role directly influence fabrication, constructability, and long-term structural performance.

You will work in a collaborative environment that integrates engineering, production, and field operations — allowing you to see your designs move from calculation to casting bed to bridge span.
