Position Summary:
To perform quality MRI/CT examination to assist the radiologist in diagnosis and treatment of the patient.
Evaluates images in accordance with professional practice standards. Participates in quality assurance activities and maintains appropriate credentials related to clinical practice.
Position Accountabilities:
- Collects pertinent data about the patient and procedure to be performed to provide appropriate MRI/CT imaging studies
- Properly screens patients prior to MRI/CT
- Performs proper charging in the EMR for examinations performed
- Understands how to complete orders in the EMR once report is in the chart
- Confirms patient identification and pregnancy status when appropriate
- Performs MRI/CT examinations using professional judgment and discretion
- Must demonstrate complete working knowledge of MRI/CT and other radiographic equipment within the department
- Determines appropriate use of shielding devices or other accessory equipment
- Administers first aid or provides life support in emergency situations
- Monitors the patient’s physical and mental state during the procedure
- Operates MRI/CT imaging equipment/devices, performs accurate patient positioning, and calculates correct exposure factors
- Evaluates MRI/CT scans for technical image quality as deemed by appropriate protocols
- Prepare and administer contrast media; ie. orally, IV, or rectally
- Practices proper infection control, prevent cross-contamination to patients and instruments
- Provides necessary information concerning patient history, chief complaints, and symptoms to aid in patient diagnosis
- Recognizes emergency situations, initiate code procedures, administer first aid/CPR as needed
- Maintains current CPR certification
- Maintains current ACLS certification, and has established proper IV certification
- Produces additional imaging as needed to provide appropriate outcome
- Performs and documents quality assurance duties based on established quality protocols
- Provides healthcare services with respect for patient’s dignity and age-specific needs
- Adheres to accepted standards, policies, and procedures adopted by the profession and regulated by law
- Maintains patient confidentiality
- Maintains appropriate credentials, continuing education, and certification related to clinical practice
- Demonstrates proper use of office communications, telephone, and paging systems
- Documents patient data, procedures, and relevant information as determined by practice standards
- Has established proper IV certification
- Performs additional duties as assigned or requested
Job Specifications:
Minimum Education
- Graduate of Radiologic Technology program accredited by the American College of Radiology or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or Bachelor of Science if an allied science with registration in MRI/CT
- Registration by ARRT or ARMRIT/ARCT
Minimum Experience
- 2 years full-time experience as a certified radiographer
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
- May be required to travel to other locations
- Lifting, standing, bending, moving patients, supplies and equipment required
- Exposure to radiation, blood borne pathogens, body fluids, processing chemicals and airborne particles
