Role Responsibilities
The Director, Broadcast Engineering, has a global remit responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and operational management of broadcast engineering systems and teams. The Director will lead a large, globally distributed team, including two direct-report managers responsible for day-to-day engineering operations. All, with a focus on collaboration, innovation, and operational excellence, this role plays a pivotal part in shaping the future of broadcast engineering within the organization. The successful candidate must demonstrate their ability to work in an agile environment, adapt quickly to changing priorities, and effectively manage last-minute requests.
Leadership & Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a global team of Broadcast Engineers and two direct-report managers, ensuring effective prioritization and adaptability to changing business needs.
- Own team performance and processes from solution design through build, testing, deployment, and transition of service into Operations and Support Engineering.
- Manage resource planning, recruitment, and skills development, fostering technical depth and IT expertise across the team.
- Ensure effective workload management and tracking, introducing mechanisms for global alignment and consistency.
Design & Delivery
- Lead a group that act as design authority for broadcast engineering projects globally
- Oversee team processes & tools that enable timely installation, commissioning, documentation, and handover of new systems and major technical changes.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to specification, following best practices and company standards.
- Drive globalization of broadcast design approaches, ensuring consistency, scalability, security and alignment with international standards and practices across regions.
Collaboration & Knowledge Transfer
- Establish mechanisms for effective collaboration with Operations, Support Engineering, PMO, Sales/Solution Architects, and other stakeholders.
- Drive knowledge sharing and process alignment across global teams and regions.
Standardization & Compliance
- Ensure global consistency in technology, tools, and processes, introducing mechanisms for alignment across regions.
- Maintain compliance with company policies, SOPs, and security standards (including SOC 2).
- Continuously identify and implement process improvements.
Escalation & Support
- Serve as the escalation point for Tier-3 support across all broadcast engineering activities.
- Oversee root cause analysis, corrective and preventative maintenance, and system upgrades.
Reporting & Governance
- Track global team skillsets, workload, and performance.
- Provide regular status reporting and strategic technical advice to senior management.
- Develop and manage capital and operating budgets.
Additional Requirements

Required Experience
The Director, Broadcast Engineering must have the following skills and experience.
- At least 10 years in progressively senior technical roles within broadcast or media environments, including planning and executing complex global broadcast projects.
- Proven leadership and mentoring ability, experience managing large, global engineering teams, driving team development, and fostering technical excellence.
- Deep technical expertise in broadcast systems design, build, Tier-3 support, and IP-based workflows, with detailed knowledge of television and production systems, transmission/decoding, signal quality analysis, and broadcast test equipment.
- Strategic and operational excellence, demonstrated ability to deliver process standardization, efficiency improvements, and long-term technology strategies, while managing vendor relationships, budgets, and resource planning.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, excellent customer-facing and internal communication, documentation standards, and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams (Operations, PMO, Solution Architects, Sales).
- Change and project management proficiency, familiarity with change management processes, system commissioning, and best practices for design and documentation.
- Problem-solving under pressure, proven capability in escalation management and troubleshooting in high-pressure environments.
- Self-motivated and adaptable, resourceful in maintaining and growing technical competency, with a clear understanding of broadcast design principles and emerging IT technologies.
Preferred Experience
It would be advantageous if the Director, Broadcast Engineering have the following skills and experience.
- Detailed IP / Networking knowledge
- Detailed knowledge of IP broadcast standards including SMPTE 2022-2, 2022-6, 2110 as well as BXF
Required Skills, Education and/or Certifications
The Director, Broadcast Engineering must have the following certification.
- Diploma or equivalent certification in Broadcast Engineering or Electronic Engineering or 10 years relevant experience
