Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Medical Director and Medical Designee for Hospice to lead clinical operations, ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, and uphold the highest standards of patient care. Responsibilities
- Provide medical oversight for hospice services, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations including HIPAA and NCQA standards.
- Act as the Medical Designee to fulfill all legal and regulatory requirements related to hospice care documentation and medical decision-making.
- Lead clinical development initiatives by integrating best practices, evidence-based protocols, and innovative approaches to enhance patient outcomes.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams—including nursing, social work, chaplaincy, and therapy—to coordinate comprehensive care plans tailored to each patient’s needs.
- Oversee utilization management processes to optimize resource use while maintaining high-quality patient care; review medical records for accuracy and completeness.
- Ensure all documentation complies with FDA regulations and healthcare management standards; maintain thorough records aligned with HIPAA privacy rules.
Requirements
- Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution with active licensure in the relevant state or jurisdiction.
- Proven experience in managed care environments, hospital settings, or clinical research with a focus on hospice or palliative care preferred.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, medical terminology, and clinical development principles essential for effective medical management.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with supervising experience in multidisciplinary teams; ability to motivate staff toward shared goals.
- Familiarity with EMR (Electronic Medical Record) systems and EHR (Electronic Health Record) systems for documentation and data analysis purposes (HOSPICEMD).
- Comprehensive understanding of HIPAA regulations, FDA guidelines, NCQA standards, and utilization management processes.
