The EHR Implementation Specialist is responsible for leading the deployment, configuration, training, and support of Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Practice Management applications for physician offices, clinics, or healthcare groups. This role ensures a smooth transition from legacy systems to the new EHR platform by understanding client workflows, customizing system settings, coordinating data migration, and training end users.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Management:
- Manage full-cycle implementation projects, including planning, setup, configuration, testing, training, and go-live support.
- Develop and maintain project timelines, documentation, and status reports.
- Client Engagement:
- Collaborate with physicians, clinical staff, and office administrators to understand their workflows and business requirements.
- Customize the EHR application to meet client-specific needs, including templates, forms, and workflows.
- System Configuration & Testing:
- Configure user roles, security settings, and templates within the EHR system.
- Conduct system testing and validation to ensure data integrity and workflow efficiency.
- Training & Support:
- Provide end-user training sessions (onsite or remote) for physicians, nurses, and administrative staff.
- Offer go-live and post-implementation support, troubleshooting technical and workflow issues.
- Data Migration & Integration:
- Coordinate data import/migration from legacy systems.
- Work with technical teams to integrate EHR with billing systems, labs, e-prescribing, and other third-party applications.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Gather client feedback to enhance product functionality and user experience.
- Develop and maintain training materials, implementation guides, and best practice documentation.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience:
- 2–5 years of experience implementing or supporting EHR/EMR systems.
- Prior experience with systems such as Epic, eClinicalWorks, Athenahealth, Allscripts, or similar preferred.
- Knowledge of medical billing workflows and clinical documentation processes a plus.
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of physician office workflows and healthcare regulations (HIPAA, HITECH).
- Excellent communication, presentation, and client relationship skills.
- Analytical and problem-solving ability to resolve implementation challenges.
- Proficient in MS Office and project management tools.
Preferred Certifications:
- Certified EHR Specialist (CEHRS) or vendor-specific certification (Epic, Cerner, Athena, etc.).
- Project management certification (PMP, CAPM) a plus
