Director of Software Engineering

Please note that the Director of Software Engineering role is a Boston-based onsite position. We offer flexible Fridays that allow you to work from home if needed.

Emulate is actively seeking a visionary and accomplished Director of Software Engineering to lead our growing team of software engineers in delivering high-quality, scalable solutions for our Organ-Chip platform. In this role, you will set the strategic direction for software development across robotic systems, data infrastructure, and embedded platforms. You will inspire and guide teams, foster cross-functional collaboration, and uphold best-in-class software practices to support Emulate’s mission of revolutionizing human biology and health through innovation. Desired Skills & Experience:

• 10 years of experience in software engineering with at least 4 years in a senior leadership role.
• Demonstrated success building and leading engineering teams in high-growth, complex technical environments.
• Experience with full-stack development, embedded systems, and robotic software is a strong plus.
• Solid understanding of modern software practices including CI/CD, test automation, DevOps, and cloud infrastructure.
• Experience working in regulated, hardware-adjacent, or life sciences domains preferred.
• Technical proficiency in relevant languages such as Python, C , JavaScript, or equivalent.
• Proven ability to align technology strategy with business outcomes and product roadmaps.
• Strong communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Compensation & Benefits

• Base Salary: $160,000 – $240,000 annually, commensurate with experience
• Annual Bonus: Performance-based bonus opportunity
