What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laboratory Analyst (Asbestos) position at EMSL?
EMSL is seeking a Laboratory Analyst (Asbestos) in Meriden, CT. No laboratory experience is required, just a desire to learn technical skills and become proficient in common laboratory practices and procedures. On-the-job training will be provided for all new employees. Experienced analysts are welcomed to apply.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Preparation and analysis of bulk and solid materials for asbestos content using PLM (Polarized Light Microscopy), PCM (Phase Contrast Microscopy), and all ancillary quality control procedures
Determination of visual percentage and optical properties of asbestos and non-asbestos material
Clean, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment as needed
Generate analytical reports and enter data into the LIMS system
Perform quality control practices per company Quality Assurance/Quality Control manual
Administrative duties including sample login and data entry, scanning and emailing reports and answering phones
Other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the manager
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or related science required
1 year work experience
Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship
Light microscopy, optical mineralogy/petrographic microscope preferred
Laboratory experience either in academic or commercial setting is a plus
0-1 years of experience performing asbestos PLM/TEM/PCM analysis
Ability to distinguish colors in order to perform analysis
Ability to work independently, and as a part of a team, self-motivated, adaptability, and a positive attitude
Effective time management organizational skills, and ability to multi- task and prioritize with minimal assistance
Available Shift:
Position is full-time Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
