Development & Community Outreach Coordinator

Empowerment Ministries International is seeking a motivated, organized, and relationship-focused professional to help establish and expand our presence in Bakersfield, California. Although our charitable programs serve communities in Africa, this position will focus on building local support through businesses, churches, community organizations, donors, and fundraising activities.

The role combines fundraising, sales, marketing, community outreach, event coordination, and administrative support. The successful candidate will help develop new partnerships, maintain relationships with supporters, coordinate local activities, and assist ministry leadership with the organization’s growth in Bakersfield.

Success in this position will be demonstrated by consistent outreach, new partnership meetings, increased donor engagement, successful fundraising campaigns, organized administrative systems, and strong coordination of our September 19 fundraising event.

• Identify and contact businesses, churches, community organizations, and individuals who may support EMI’s charitable projects.
• Develop relationships with prospective donors, sponsors, ministry partners, and community leaders.
• Schedule and coordinate meetings, presentations, speaking opportunities, and follow-up communications.
• Assist with planning and spearheading EMI’s Bakersfield fundraising event scheduled for September 19.
• Seek event sponsors, participating churches, vendors, volunteers, and community partners.
• Support fundraising campaigns through telephone calls, email outreach, social media, presentations, and local networking.
• Maintain accurate records of prospects, donors, meetings, commitments, and follow-up activities.
• Prepare professional letters, proposals, presentations, reports, and promotional materials.
• Assist with local marketing and social media activities that increase awareness of EMI’s work.
• Provide administrative support, including calendar coordination, meeting preparation, document organization, and project tracking.
• Submit regular reports showing outreach activity, meetings scheduled, partnerships developed, donations generated, and upcoming priorities.
• Represent EMI professionally at community meetings, church gatherings, networking events, and fundraising activities.
• Work closely with ministry leadership to establish and grow EMI’s Bakersfield operations.
  

• Experience in fundraising, sales, business development, marketing, community outreach, nonprofit work, church relations, administration, or a related field.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to confidently contact businesses, churches, donors, and community leaders.
• Strong relationship-building, networking, and follow-up skills.
• Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Experience coordinating events, meetings, campaigns, or community activities is preferred.
• Comfortable using email, Microsoft Office or Google Workspace, social media, spreadsheets, and online communication tools.
• Able to work independently while remaining accountable to goals and deadlines.
• Professional, dependable, resourceful, and committed to maintaining confidentiality.
• Familiarity with Bakersfield churches, businesses, nonprofits, or community organizations is strongly preferred.
• Reliable transportation and availability to attend local meetings and events.
• Comfortable working within and professionally representing a Christian ministry environment.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred, but relevant professional experience will also be considered.
