Empowering Mind’s is looking for a part-time Community Support Specialist with the opportunity to go full-time, if desired. Empowering Minds provides services to people with disabilities in the community. We are looking for a compassionate and empathetic Community Support Specialist to join our team and help us make a difference in the lives of those we serve. As a Community Support Specialist, you will be helping individuals work towards individually identified goals that help to promote independence. These goals may include: community integration, scheduling medical appointments, paperwork, and various household management tasks. The ideal candidate will have experience working with vulnerable populations and have a passion for helping others. Community Support Specialist's are required to have reliable transportation to meet and assist consumers in accessing the community. Some consumers may have mobility aides (walker, cane, etc.). Community Support Specialist's must also be comfortable dealing with a variety of household pets (dogs, cats, fish, reptiles, etc.). This job will require some moderate amounts of driving and employees will be eligible for mileage reimbursement.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
· Applicants must be 21 years of age.
· Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and proof of auto/liability insurance.
· Ability to travel in all types of weather.
· Pass a MN Department of Human Services criminal background check.
· 2 years of experience working with individuals with developmental, mental health or other disabilities and/or Associates in a relevant field with one year of experience.
· Excellent writing and verbal skills and the ability to speak English proficiently.
· Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse population of people.
· Demonstrated problem solving, independent judgement, and planning skills.
· Adept in the use of technology.
