Position Summary
Police Officers are responsible for the protection of life and property, preservation of public order, and enforcement of federal, state, and local laws and ordinances within the City of Emporia.
This position requires sound judgment, professionalism, and the ability to exercise initiative and discretion, especially during emergency situations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Patrol assigned areas to maintain public safety
- Enforce traffic laws and investigate traffic accidents
- Respond to calls for service and emergency situations
- Investigate crimes and assist with ongoing investigations
- Prepare reports and testify in court as required
- Provide assistance and resources to members of the public
- Enforce all applicable federal, state, and local laws
Compensation Police Officer Recruit
- Starting Pay: $23.66 per hour
- After 1 year post-academy graduation: $27.19 per hour
Patrol Officer Pay Range
- $27.19 – $42.98 per hour
Master Police Officer
(After 8 years of law enforcement experience; lateral service counts toward eligibility)
- Pay Range: $34.72 – $54.88 per hour
Lateral transfer pay is based on verified law enforcement experience.
Additional Pay Incentives
- Associate’s Degree: $0.50/hour
- Bachelor’s Degree: $1.00/hour
- Spanish Bilingual: $1.00/hour
- Incentive pay available upon completion of training benchmarks
