ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION

The Emporia Community Foundation is seeking a Financial Officer to join our team and help steward the charitable resources that strengthen communities across Chase, Coffey, Greenwood, Lyon, Morris, Osage, and Wabaunsee counties.

Founded in 1995, the Emporia Community Foundation manages more than 400 charitable funds and approximately $54 million in assets. Through grantmaking, scholarships, donor services, and community leadership initiatives, we work with individuals, families, businesses, and nonprofit organizations to create lasting impact throughout the region.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Financial Officer serves as a key member of our three-person team and is responsible for the day-to-day financial operations of the Foundation. This position oversees fund accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, payroll administration, grants and scholarship disbursements, audit coordination, compliance, and financial recordkeeping.

The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, highly organized, and committed to excellent stewardship of charitable assets while supporting the Foundation's mission and values.

  • Manage fund accounting and financial records for more than 400 charitable funds.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and statements.
  • Coordinate payroll processing and employee benefits administration.
  • Process grants, scholarships, fund distributions, and organizational expenditures.
  • Assist with budget development and ongoing financial analysis.
  • Coordinate annual audit activities and support regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain financial systems including akoyaGO and QuickBooks.
  • Prepare financial reports for the Foundation leadership, board members, and committees.
  • Support strong internal controls and financial stewardship practices.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field required.
  • Experience in accounting, financial management, nonprofit accounting, fund accounting, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Experience with QuickBooks, akoyaGO, or similar financial management software preferred.
  • CPA certification, nonprofit accounting experience, or community foundation experience is a plus.

POSITION DETAILS

  • Full-time (40 hours per week), primarily on site
  • Minimum base salary of $65,000 based on experience
  • Benefits package available
  • Based in Emporia, Kansas
