The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will support both development and operational programs by delivering zero-defect projects through exceptional engineering and problem-solving skills. This role is critical in providing robust and capable manufacturing process technologies, including materials, tooling, part fabrication, and assembly. The position plays a pivotal role in driving innovation, optimizing processes, and ensuring the highest standards of quality and efficiency within our aerospace composites facility.
Job Responsibilities
Process Optimization
- Lead the development and optimization of manufacturing processes for aerospace composite components.
- Focus on enhancing efficiency, reducing waste, and improving overall product quality.
Advanced Manufacturing Techniques
- Implement advanced manufacturing methods such as automation, robotics, and additive manufacturing to streamline production processes.
Material Selection and Characterization
- Collaborate with materials engineering teams to select suitable composite materials for specific applications.
- Conduct material characterization to ensure performance and reliability.
Tooling Design and Development
- Design and develop precision tooling and fixtures for composite manufacturing using CAD/CAM and advanced techniques.
- Ensure precision, repeatability, and manufacturability.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with Supply Chain, Quality, and Production Operations teams to develop and implement released engineering strategies.
Quality Assurance and Control
- Use root cause analysis and implement corrective/preventative actions to minimize non-conformances.
Risk Management
- Identify potential manufacturing risks and develop proactive mitigation strategies to maintain on-time delivery and product quality.
Technical Leadership
- Provide leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians, promoting a collaborative and innovative work environment.
- Accountable for product development, quoting for new products and tooling, first article development, configuration changes, cost estimation, schedule coordination, and build process implementation.
Other Duties
- Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
Job Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in manufacturing engineering.
- At least 5 years of experience working with aerospace composites.
Preferred:
- Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional teams and driving process improvement initiatives.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical concepts to varied audiences.
- Experience in aerostructures, including metallics and/or composites.
- Demonstrated leadership and mentoring capabilities.
- Continuous improvement mindset with strong results orientation.
- Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing training.
- Strong interpersonal skills; communicates clearly and adjusts approach to suit audience.
- Proven ability to work effectively in teams and mentor junior staff.
