What are the responsibilities and job description for the Counselor position at Employment Resources Inc/Gladys H. Oberle School?
PRINCIPLE OBJECTIVE OF POSITION
Under the supervision of the Program Director the Counselor serves as liaison between home, school, and community to facilitate the students’ appropriate personal, social, and emotional adjustment.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
This position reports directly to the Program Director
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide services and support to Gladys H. Oberle School students.
2. Provide individual and/or group counseling as designated on the student’s IEP.
3. Provide crisis intervention for students as needed.
4. Communicate and consult with school personnel, parents, and other members of the treatment team to help increase the understanding of student needs and ensure a therapeutic atmosphere conducive to promoting optimal growth and development is maintained.
5. Establish an effective and collaborative relationship with students, parents, school personnel, community agencies and others concerned with student welfare.
6. Provide case management services to students and families, to include making referrals to appropriate community resources.
7. Assist in the development and revision of special programs for individual students which may include IEPs, BIP’s and other intervention strategies when appropriate.
8. Adhere to guidelines of confidentiality as outlined in federal and state laws and School Policies and Procedures.
9. Maintain accurate and current case records and documentation.
10. Prepare reports/assessments within prescribed timelines.
11. Develop and coordinate activities to foster increased parental involvement.
12. Develop and coordinate activities with staff to promote student esteem, acceptance, and awareness.
13. Actively pursue professional growth activities.
INTERNAL/EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS
1. Frequent contact with management, staff, and local educational system providers.
2. Frequent contact with student learners and their parents, educators, and referral sources.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Master’s degree in psychology, social work, education or human service field and experience working with individuals with identified special needs and/or mental health issues is required.
2. Hold or be eligible for a valid state license as LCSW or LPC.
3. Experience working with youth in alternative settings is preferred.
4. Must satisfactorily complete all phases of the criminal background study as required by the Virginia Department of Education.
5. Must have a clean driving record.
