Job Summary
The Dental Hygienist will be able to perform all dental related care and procedures allowable under WAC regulations and guidelines. The primary job function is to be responsible for managing dental hygiene and treatment of periodontal disease of patients under direction of staff dentists.
 
 
Essential Functions: These functions are fundamental to the role and must be performed with or without a reasonable accommodation.
1. Responsible for assessing and obtaining clinical evidence of patient's level of periodontal  health, including all relevant and required chart documentation.
2. Responsible for exposure and developing appropriate diagnostic radiographs.
3. Provides appropriate treatment of existing oral diseases as diagnosed by the dentist.
4. Provides treatment of acute and chronic periodontal, gingival, and oral conditions, in conjunction with dentist.
a. Treatments are to include mechanical and ultrasonic instrumentation (scaling and root-planning removal of calculus), supra/sub-gingival removal of plaque/calculus/biofilm and coronal polishing.
b. Application of fluorides and other medicaments as necessary.
c. Restoration of cavities prepared by the dentist.
d. Take all types of prescribed radiographs.
e. Provide oral hygiene, homecare, and post-operative instruction to the patient and/or caregiver.
f. Any additional allowable procedures under WAC regulations and guidelines.
5. Assists in identification of special patient needs, such as adjunctive antibiotics, rinses, or hygiene aids in conjunction with dentist.
6. Educates patients in all aspects of oral hygiene, and consequences and treatment options for periodontal disease.
7. Provide education and limited off site care as scheduled and within the scope of the clinic and the scope of WAC guidelines.
8. Maintains dental hygiene treatment rooms in clean and orderly condition, stocked with appropriate treatment instruments and materials in conjunction with dental assistants.
9. Record treatment in daily record, chart periodontal probing, and update hygiene tracking sheets as necessary in dental records.
10. Delivers appropriate local and inhalation anesthesia for patient comfort under supervision of dentist.
11. Performs expanded function duties, ( placing and adjusting filling, temporary fillings, impressions, temporary crown cementation, facilitating teledentistry etc. as stipulated under WAC regulations/guidelines) as necessary under supervision of dentist.

Qualifications:
1. Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited dental hygiene school. Must be a board-certified hygienist.
 
2. Certification/Licensure: Must possess current, valid unrestricted license to practice dental hygiene in the State of Washington. Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
 
3. Experience: One or more years of experience as a dental hygienist preferred, especially in a community or public health setting.
 
4. Language Skills: 
 
a. English and Spanish fluency preferred
b. English fluency required

Each year after that employee will accrue 8 hours of PTO each year, on their anniversary date, until they reach a maximum of 208 hours at 10 years.

Paid Leave may be used immediately for sick leave and after 3 months employment for vacation.  Maximum accrual cap of 320 hours; hours in excess of 320 hours will automatically transfer into the employees EIB.   If an employee is within their 90-day introductory period and does not have holiday pool hours available, PTO may be used to cover the holiday if the employee has an available balance.

Extended Illness Bank (EIB)

Allows for maximum accrual of 200 hours

PTO hours in excess of 320 will transfer into EIB. Employees are eligible to use EIB hours after at least 3 consecutive scheduled working days of PTO (max 24 hours) which have been used for a personal illness and/or a qualifying event under FMLA or the WA Family Care Act. 

Holidays

64 hours related to:

·         New Year’s Day

·         Memorial Day

·         4th of July

·         Labor Day

·         Thanksgiving Day

·         Day after Thanksgiving

·         Christmas Eve

·         Christmas Day

Holidays are based on an 8-hour day. Providers will receive a holiday pool of 64 hours as a 1.0 FTE at the beginning of each calendar year.   Holiday pool hours must be used by December 31 of each calendar year; unused holiday pool hours will be forfeited. If an employee starts after the calendar year has begun, holiday hours will be prorated based on remaining holidays in the calendar year.

Diversity Days

Available after the first payroll cycle after start date. Diversity days will be prorated based on start date as outlined below:

·         Jan 1- April 30: 3 diversity days (24 hours if 1.0 FTE)

·         May 1 – August 31: 2 diversity days (16 hours if 1.0 FTE)

·         Sept 1 – Dec 31: 1 diversity day (8 hours if 1.0 FTE)

Spanish Immersion

$2,000

Employer will reimburse Provider up to $2,000, for participating in Pop Wuj Spanish Immersion program in Guatemala, or La Hacienda Spanish School in Mexico, for a minimum 3-week period, prior to the Provider’s initial start date. 

CE

40 Hrs/ $2,000 per year based on 1.0 FTE. This will include BLS Certification renewal if completed offsite and not in house.  CVCH provides BLS renewal in house for employees whose job description and license require one.

Available immediately. CE is loaded the first full pay period in January of each year and available to maintain licensure while working at CVCH. CE must be used by December 31 of each calendar year; unused CE will be forfeited.  CE will be prorated based on start date into calendar year.  CE is not available during provider’s termination notice period.

Tuition Reimbursement

For approved courses, the cost of tuition, books, and lab fees may be reimbursed at 75% of the actual costs up to a maximum of:
