What are the responsibilities and job description for the OFFICE ASSISTANT (GENERAL) position at Employment Development Department?
The Employment Development Department (EDD), Document Management Division is searching for a motivated, skilled, and challenge-seeking individual who enjoys innovation, problem solving, and is interested in working with an exciting team of professionals in a fast-paced environment. Under the close supervision of the Office Services Supervisor II (General), the Office Assistant (General) performs a variety of mail receiving and processing duties in the Document Management Group (DMG). The mail processing activities are for both remittance and non-remittance mail.
The incumbent must be aware of the processing deadlines and will move from one function to another within the DMG in order to expedite the mail receiving, opening and preparation activities, and may assist in other job functions, such as deposit preparation activities. Due to the arrival time of the mail and strict processing time frames the incumbent may be required to work early hours.
Because of fluctuating workload levels and strict processing time frames, the incumbent may be required to work overtime or a fluctuating work schedule.
The incumbent must also have strong organizational and communication abilities (written and verbal) to support the EDD's mission, vision, values, and business priorities. This position is conveniently located near Rancho Cordova while offering free parking and a variety of nearby restaurants.
Note: The position may have shifts that range between the hours of 4:30am to 4:30pm. Additionally, this position is not eligible for hybrid telework.

Statement of Qualifications Requirements
A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is Required. The SOQ serves as documentation of each candidate’s ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. Background Investigation Requirement
The position(s) may require an applicant to pass a background investigation. However, applicants will not be asked to provide information about a conviction history unless they receive a conditional offer of employment.
The department will make an individualized assessment of whether the conviction history has a direct or adverse relationship with the specific duties of the job and the work performed by the department. The department will consider potential mitigating factors, including, but not limited to, evidence and extent of rehabilitation, recency, nature and seriousness, and age at the time of the offense(s).
The investigation will consist of completion of a personal history statement and fingerprinting checks with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Department of Justice, and/or local law enforcement agencies. Anyone failing to pass the background investigation will be provided information on how to appeal the process. A criminal conviction may not result in an automatic determination of "Not Qualified."
