JOB PURPOSE:
The Summer Intern will support the Planning, Development, and Communications team by conducting policy research, analyzing workforce data, and helping build internal systems to track key legislative and policy developments. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented individual interested in workforce development, public policy, and data-informed storytelling.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct research on local, state, and federal workforce policies, legislation, and funding priorities.
- Analyze data related to poverty, unemployment, and workforce trends in Milwaukee, WI to help develop clear, data-driven agency need statements.
- Assist in translating complex data and policy information into accessible content for internal and external audiences.
- Develop and organize a simple, sustainable system for tracking policy updates, including maintaining links to relevant websites, legislative trackers, and key resources.
- Support special projects and provide general assistance to the Planning, Development, and Communications team as needed.

KEY ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required. Must be attending post-secondary education with an interest in policy, public administration, social services, urban planning, business, economics, political science or similar.
Technology/Equipment: Familiar with Microsoft Office or similar systems. Experience with, or interest in, data visualization or policy tracking tools
Availability: 20 hours per week which may include later hours as needed.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and/or hear, and/or use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand, and/or walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds while moving files or small packages. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
