JOB PURPOSE:

The Community Relations Specialist and Liaison position offers an excellent opportunity to develop workforce skills in community outreach, engagement, and program marketing. It is ideal for students seeking an internship or individuals pursuing part-time employment while gaining valuable experience making a positive impact in the community. As a member of the Community Relations team, the Community Relations Specialist and Liaison provides organizational and strategic support by assisting with community outreach initiatives and engagement efforts. This role serves as Employ Milwaukee's representative and liaison to satellite offices and community pop-up locations throughout Milwaukee County, helping to strengthen partnerships and increase awareness of agency programs and services. The applicants will be encouraged to apply their creativity, initiative, and experience to support and advance the goals of the Community Relations team. This position reports directly to the Community Engagement and Agency Impact Director and receives guidance and direction to ensure the successful execution of outreach and engagement strategies. ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist with the outreach initiatives of the organization as determined by leadership.

Serve as the official representative at Employ Milwaukee satellite offices and community events.

Works with the Director to research, develop, implement, and plan community outreach activities to advance the mission and goals of the company.

Distribute materials on Employ Milwaukee programs, services, and initiatives.

Network with other community groups and professionals.

Participate at outreach opportunities at local community events.

Seek out opportunities for community outreach and partnerships, including fee-based programming.

Perform administrative duties including but not limited to data entry, reporting spreadsheets, drafting correspondence, maintaining, and returning phone messages.

Promote programs such as FlexRide and other workforce resources.

Travel to various locations throughout the day.

Other duties as assigned.

KEY ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:

Strong written communication skills with the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals, ability to create spread sheets.

Strong oral communication skills with the ability to speak effectively, present information in public and respond to questions from various groups of managers, clients, and/or customers.

Ability to work cross-departmentally.

Ability to read and interpret detailed and technical documents that pertain to a variety of workforce development programs.

Ability to compile and analyze information and formulate recommendations.

Ability to provide technical information and assistance on workforce development programs.

Ability to design forms to record pertinent information and systems.

Ability to use various community resources for outreach, research, and dissemination of information.

Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as program manuals, operation plans, technical procedure manuals, various state and federal government regulations, professional journals, and general business-related periodicals and/or journals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and experience: An equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. Associates degree encouraged, certificate comparable in communication, public relations, marketing, human services, or related field. 2 years of experience in workforce development, project management, human/social services, or related field.

Technology/Equipment: Experience using Microsoft Office, team’s social media platforms, participant data tracking systems such as Efforts to Outcomes (ETO), and Outlook and other.

Licenses/ Certificates: Wisconsin Driver’s License

Other: Required Wisconsin car insurance, Reliable transportation

Residence: City of Milwaukee is required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in communication, public relations, marketing, human services or related field and 2-5 years of experience.

Licenses/Certificates: Trauma Informed Care certification and Motivational Interviewing certification preferred.

Technology/Equipment: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, social media platforms, participant data tracking systems including Efforts to Outcomes (ETO).

Languages: Bi-Lingual in the Spanish Language preferred

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:

The mental and physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk, working on a commuter.

Ability to be on their feet for up to 8 hours at a time.

Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.

Travel throughout Milwaukee County by vehicle.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in an office environment and community settings. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. May occasionally be required to perform job duties outside of the typical office setting.
