We are looking for a Cafe & Kitchen Manager with proven experience in either:
- Coffee shop / café management / Retail Store management (people leadership, scheduling, operations), or
- Kitchen management (food prep, menu execution, inventory control).
The manager will be responsible for overseeing daily café operations, driving the food program forward, and ensuring profitability through disciplined staffing, scheduling, and inventory management.
The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and able to balance people leadership, food quality, and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities:
- Leadership & People Management
- Hire, train, coach, and develop staff across café and kitchen roles.
- Create and manage schedules to ensure appropriate coverage.
- Handle call-outs, sick staff, and last-minute scheduling adjustments.
- Build a positive, accountable, and motivated team culture.
- Conduct regular staff meetings and training sessions.
Operations Management
- Oversee daily café and/or kitchen operations, ensuring smooth execution.
- Maintain high standards for food safety, cleanliness, and customer service.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and health regulations.
- Lead by example on the café floor and/or in the kitchen when needed.
Food & Beverage Program
- Support the growth and execution of Empire’s food program (baked goods, menu items, seasonal offerings).
- Train staff on food prep, portioning, presentation, and service.
- Collaborate with ownership to launch and refine menu items.
- Ensure consistency and quality of all food and beverage products.
Profitability & Business Management
- Manage inventory, ordering, and vendor relationships to control costs.
- Track and manage food costs, waste, and labor efficiency.
- Schedule labor to align with business demand while maintaining profitability.
- Monitor sales mix, average ticket size, and KPIs to meet performance goals.
- Work with ownership to improve systems for efficiency and profitability.
Qualifications
- 2 years of management experience in either a coffee shop/café or a kitchen/restaurant. Retail store management will also be considered.
- Strong knowledge of café or kitchen operations, depending on background.
- Proven ability to hire, train, and manage a team of 10 .
- Experience with scheduling, inventory management, and vendor ordering.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, especially in handling call-outs or operational challenges.
- Strong organizational skills with a track record of improving efficiency and profitability.
- Passion for both people and product.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $24-27/hr
