Duties
- Operate various heavy-duty trucks including roll-off trucks, dump trucks, and flatbeds with precision and safety.
- Load and unload roll-off containers efficiently using hydraulic systems, ensuring secure transport of waste or recyclables.
- Drive commercial vehicles over short and long distances, adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Perform routine inspections of trucks before and after shifts to identify mechanical issues or safety concerns; report any maintenance needs promptly.
- Assist with the manual lifting of heavy containers or materials when necessary, utilizing proper lifting techniques to prevent injury.
- Coordinate with dispatch to schedule pickups and deliveries, optimizing routes for efficiency.
- Maintain accurate logs of deliveries, pickups, mileage, fuel consumption, and vehicle maintenance records.
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) during loading/unloading activities.
- Support the team by handling additional tasks such as yard organization or assisting with equipment setup when needed.
Skills
- Strong mechanical knowledge of heavy-duty trucks and hydraulic systems used in roll-off operations.
- Proven experience driving dump trucks, tractor-trailers, or flatbeds in a commercial setting.
- Excellent driving skills with a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL), including manual transmission operation if applicable.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently during loading and unloading processes.
- Familiarity with load securing techniques to ensure safe transit of containers.
- Knowledge of local traffic laws and regulations related to commercial vehicle operation.
- Experience in delivery driving or logistics roles that require precise route planning and time management.
- Basic troubleshooting skills for mechanical issues that may arise during daily operations.
- Good communication skills to coordinate with team members and dispatchers effectively.
