Role Summary:
We’re seeking an experienced Landlord–Tenant Paralegal to handle court-related work for non-payment cases and related filings, primarily in Pennsylvania Magisterial District Courts (MDJ). You’ll keep our docket moving—from notice to judgment to possession—attending MDJ hearings as our authorized company representative/agent and maintaining rock-solid paperwork and timelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, file, and track landlord–tenant complaints, notices, affidavits, and post-judgment documents (writs, possession).
- Coordinate service of process; maintain a precise MDJ hearing calendar and appearance schedule.
- Appear in MDJ as Empire’s authorized representative/agent; present facts, exhibits, and requested relief.
- Monitor statutory timelines (judgment, writ, possession, lockout) and escalate matters promptly.
- Keep forms, templates, and workflows aligned with PA rules and local practices; update for rule changes.
- Communicate with property managers and outside counsel (as needed for appeals).
Engagement & Compensation
- Retainer arrangement (monthly baseline covering filings and appearances)
- On-site court appearances required; prep/admin is remote
- Typical schedule aligns with MDJ calendars; occasional short-notice appearances may occur.
Compliance Note
This role appears at MDJ as Empire’s employee/authorized agent. Appeals to the Court of Common Pleas or matters requiring legal representation are coordinated with a licensed attorney.
Requirements
Qualifications
- 1–3 years focused on landlord–tenant or collections; MDJ experience strongly preferred.
- Comfortable speaking in court; organized and confident managing a high-volume docket.
- Familiarity with MDJ e-filing and practices.
- Paralegal certificate or ABA-approved paralegal program preferred.
- Strong written documentation, attention to detail, and follow-through.
