Empire Justice Center | Supervising Attorney Roles | Albany or Rochester, NY (Hybrid)

We're a statewide legal services organization fighting for low-income New Yorkers facing poverty, housing insecurity, immigration barriers, domestic violence, disability discrimination, and civil rights violations. We win through direct representation, high-impact litigation, and policy advocacy.
🔹 Role 1: Supervising Staff Attorney / Supervising Senior Attorney – Consumer Rights (Education Debt)
Lead our Education Debt Consumer Assistance Program (EDCAP). You'll advise and represent student loan borrowers, run the program day-to-day, and serve as the organization's subject matter expert on student loan and education debt law. You'll also supervise our Student Loan Paralegal, drive coalition work, deliver CLE trainings, and identify opportunities for systemic impact litigation.
Salary: $91,659–$94,329 (3–6 years experience) | $104,700–$111,000 (7–8 years experience)
Experience Required: 3–8 years as an attorney; supervisory experience required
🔹 Role 2: Supervising Senior Litigation Attorney
Join our litigation team and lead complex civil impact cases and class actions across public benefits, civil rights, healthcare, tenants' rights, and more. You'll handle all phases of litigation — from case development through trial and appeal — while mentoring attorneys, driving litigation strategy, and representing Empire Justice in external coalitions.
Salary: $113,879–$119,055
Experience Required: 10 years of litigation experience; class action or systemic litigation experience required

- J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school (or international equivalent)
- Admission to the New York State Bar (or eligibility within one year)

- Supervisory or mentorship experience
- Commitment to working with communities affected by poverty and discrimination
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and legal technology tools
