Description
OVERVIEW:
- Manages the activities of Sterile Processing and Distribution Departments to ensure quality service.
- Oversees daily operations and direct services to provide quality and timely delivery of all surgical instruments for cases scheduled.
- Delegates work assignments to personnel when needed.
- Assists employees with daily operations of the SPM Microsoft Instrument Computer Tracking system for Distribution and Prep/Pack Assembly.
- Directs and monitors preparation and maintenance of related charts and records.
- Seeks opportunities to maximize cost savings.
- Organizes all areas of SPD work proficiently.
- Promotes and maintains effective interdepartmental relations with medical and nursing staff.
- Organizes inventory control and ordering supplies.
- Acts as purchasing agent for Surgical Services.
- Organizes time, supplies, and equipment efficiently and effectively.
- Collaborates with the Operating Room to provide quality care and supplies for patient care.
- Manages departmental staff within established budget to facilitate effective services as follows:Interviews, selects, trains, and supervises departmental staff.
- Evaluates performance, making recommendations for personnel actions and motivation of employees to achieve superior performance.
- Oversees time and attendance coordination for assigned staff, including monitoring overtime and productivity.
- Assists in budget development and monitors departmental budget.
- Ensures appropriate provision and utilization of departmental resources.
- Actively participates in setting, monitoring and achieving goals for the department.
- Promotes and facilitates continuous quality improvement activities and teams.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate of an Accredited Professional School of Nursing RN preferred.
- Five years experience as a surgical tech or SPD tech required.
- At least 1 year of management or leadership experience required.
- Surgical Technician or Sterile Processing Technician certification required.
- If RN, must have a valid, active license or temporary permit approved by the Georgia Licensing Board. Knowledge of regulatory standards, sterilization decontamination process and standards, and SPM Microsoft instrument computer tracking preferred.
- Must have exceptional communication skills and able to build team environment to support surgical services.
- Must be surgically oriented, technically skilled.
