What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chef position at Emmett's Cafe?
Pay rate: $14.00-$17.00 [D.O.E.] ($7-$12/hr in Tips)
JOB OVERVIEW:
Mornings only chef role at busy, fast-paced cafe.
The Chef is responsible for day-to-day BOH operations of the cafe.
This individual will lead all BOH employees by upholding kitchen, health, and safety standards. Upholding the cleanliness of the kitchen is mandatory. The Chef will be responsible for creating a positive culture through open communication, accountability and respect- being the example of hard work and ensuring that others are staying on task.
EXPECTATIONS/ STANDARDS:
-5 days a week (7-3 on weekdays, 8-4 on weekends)
-Weekends required.
-Ensure that the daily checklists/PAR/prep sheets are being properly prioritized in order of importance and then completed in a timely fashion. Delegate tasks and make sure that all daily deep cleaning tasks are being completed.
-Be fully knowledgeable of the menu & processes and ready to coach the team on all BOH operations and standards.
-Complete daily BOH ordering and make sure that Emmett’s is fully stocked for service.
-Manage employees during the close, ensuring cleanliness is of the highest standard before dismissing employees.
-Check inventory, update POS and communicate quantities with FOH management daily.
-Sit in on the hiring of new team members and nurture/identify talent within the company.
-Practice safety standards and ensure that other team members are not being reckless or practicing unsafe health and safety standards..
-Be engaged, communicate, and encourage others on 7Shifts.
-Train, coach, and orient new staff members.
-Facilitate daily staff breaks and ensure that they are not taken within our “prime business hours” (11am-1pm).
-Manage labor by sending employees home on slow days after all tasks are completed.
-Make sure that all employees are complying with the Employee Handbook (Corrective action on phones, the stealing of company time, etc.).
-Identify ways to improve the food program, including cutting costs, streamlining preparation and refining systems.
-Take ownership of new menu items and systems.

Pay: $21.00 - $29.00 per hour
