Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Estimator with experience preparing cost estimates for Federal construction and construction management projects. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of commercial construction systems, cost databases such as RSMeans Facilities Cost Data, and the ability to prepare reliable estimates across multiple construction disciplines.
This role requires strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, as well as the ability to coordinate with subcontractors and project teams while managing multiple estimates simultaneously. Experience working with federal construction requirements, prevailing wage regulations, and government project specifications is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Estimation & Cost Analysis
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for Federal construction and construction management projects.
- Develop estimates at various stages of project development including conceptual, design development, and final bid phases.
- Utilize RSMeans Facilities Cost Data and estimating software to prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates.
- Analyze project drawings, specifications, and government contract documents to determine labor, materials, and equipment costs.
Multi-Discipline Construction Estimating
Prepare estimates covering multiple federal construction disciplines including:
- Architectural systems
- HVAC and HVAC controls
- Electrical and data systems
- Civil and structural work
- Fire alarm and mass notification systems
- Plumbing and sprinkler systems
- Commissioning and environmental systems
Cost Support & Project Coordination
- Assist in reviewing subcontractor proposals and supporting contract negotiations.
- Provide cost input to project managers during project planning and execution.
- Support value engineering efforts and cost management for federal construction projects.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Structural Engineering
- Construction Management
- Architecture or equivalent related field
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in construction estimating.
- Experience preparing estimates for Commercial construction projects.
- Experience coordinating and negotiating with multiple construction subcontractor trades.
Technical Skills
- Extensive knowledge of the RSMeans Facilities Cost Data Book.
- Experience using professional estimating software and digital take-off tools.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and federal contract documents.
Preferred Requirements
- The position may require access to U.S. Army and other Department of Defense installations.
- A clean background history is necessary to meet federal installation access requirements.
