Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and detailed health histories to inform individualized care plans.
- Administer medications and injections accurately following established protocols, including IV infusions and medication management.
- Utilize EMR (Electronic Medical Records) and EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks for precise documentation of patient interactions and treatments.
- Perform specialized procedures such as suturing, catheterization (including urinary and vascular), tube feeding management, ostomy care, and sterile processing techniques.
- Manage acute pain and trauma cases with expertise in airway management, ventilator operation, and emergency response protocols aligned with Level I Trauma Center standards.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in settings like ICU (Intensive Care Unit), PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit), or surgical units to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
- Educate patients and families on health coaching topics such as geriatrics, dementia care (including Alzheimer’s), hospice & palliative medicine, and chronic disease management.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintain meticulous medical documentation adhering to NCQA standards and ICD coding guidelines.
- Support infection control practices through aseptic techniques and specimen collection/processing to uphold safety standards across all departments.
- Participate in discharge planning, case management, and follow-up care to promote recovery at home or in community-based settings like assisted living or nursing homes.
Skills
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems including Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth or similar platforms for efficient documentation.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pharmacology, and medical terminology relevant to diverse nursing specialties.
- Experience with complex procedures such as IV insertion/infusion, phlebotomy, venipuncture, catheter care (including Foley catheters), and sterile technique applications.
- Ability to perform detailed patient assessments in various environments such as emergency rooms, ICU units, outpatient clinics or long-term care facilities.
- Skilled in managing acute conditions like trauma medicine, infectious disease care, critical care transport or post-operative recovery.
- Familiarity with ICD-9/ICD-10 coding for accurate billing and medical records management.
- Capable of working with individuals with disabilities or developmental challenges across settings like memory care or behavioral health units.
- Knowledge of occupational health protocols including Workers’ Compensation law compliance and workplace injury management.
- Demonstrated ability to handle high-pressure situations involving trauma medicine or emergency medicine scenarios effectively.
- Excellent communication skills for patient education on topics such as nutrition, family planning or chronic disease self-management.
