About the Position
We are seeking an experienced Commercial & Civil Construction Superintendent to lead all on-site operations on large commercial projects that include substantial civil components. This role requires deep expertise in earthwork, utilities, grading, concrete, stormwater systems, and full site development, as well as the ability to manage commercial building construction activities.
The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with strong field management skills, the technical knowledge to interpret civil and architectural plans, and the ability to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality work.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and schedule field crews, subcontractors, and equipment for efficient production.
- Interpret and follow project plans, drawings, and specifications.
- Manage project layout and maintain line, grade, elevation, and overall field control.
- Keep project schedules updated and coordinated with the Project Manager.
- Set up and maintain the jobsite office, permits, safety postings, and sanitary facilities.
- Enforce high standards of safety, quality, and housekeeping across the site.
- Maintain inventory control of tools, equipment, and overall site security.
- Complete and submit daily reports, delivery receipts, and required documentation.
- Lead weekly progress meetings with subcontractors and suppliers.
- Coordinate and assist with inspections and maintain strong relationships with clients and design professionals.
- Document and update all changes on as-built drawings.
- Oversee all civil sitework operations, including:
- Mass excavation, cut/fill, and grading
- Storm, sewer, water, and utility installation
- Erosion control, SWPPP compliance, and stormwater management
- Roadway, curb & gutter, paving, and parking lot construction
- Concrete foundations, flatwork, retaining walls, and drainage structures
- Use survey tools (theodolite, site level, laser level) to maintain accurate layout and field control.
- Coordinate closely with surveyors, civil engineers, geotechnical teams, and municipal inspectors.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of commercial construction experience on projects up to $30M.
- Strong leadership abilities with foresight to identify and solve issues early.
- Thorough knowledge of current construction practices and efficient field methods.
- Computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Outlook, Procore
- Certifications: First Aid, CPR, OSHA 30.
