EmergingDx, Inc. is an innovative research and product development company working on advanced diagnostic technologies, microfluidic systems, biomedical instrumentation, robotics, and emerging engineering solutions. Our multidisciplinary R&D activities integrate mechanical engineering, mechatronics, sensors, electronics, and automation to develop innovative technologies and commercially viable products.
We are seeking a resourceful, hands-on Mechanical Engineer who can independently translate technical requirements into functional prototypes. The ideal candidate combines strong mechanical engineering fundamentals with practical design and fabrication experience, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical components, precision mechanisms, assemblies, enclosures, fixtures, and electromechanical systems.
- Create 3D CAD models, assemblies, detailed engineering drawings, and bills of materials using SolidWorks.
- Perform engineering calculations involving forces, torque, motion, stress, materials, and dimensional tolerances.
- Independently develop, fabricate, assemble, test, and refine functional prototypes.
- Integrate mechanical components with motors, actuators, sensors, electronics, and fluidic systems.
- Develop experimental test fixtures, laboratory equipment, and automated systems.
- Support programming, data acquisition, and instrument control for experimental systems.
- Troubleshoot technical problems, investigate failures, and implement improvements based on experimental results.
- Apply design-for-manufacturing and design-for-assembly (DFM/DFA) principles to improve performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external vendors while maintaining engineering documentation and taking ownership of assigned development activities.
- Maintain strong documentation of process flows, design history files, risk assessments, prototypes, and results—supporting potential regulatory or commercialization pathways.
- Effectively communicate results and technical insights to clients and stakeholders through both written reports and oral presentations.
- Contribute to IP generation, technical reports, grant proposals and internal project milestones.
- Stay current on scientific literature, and emerging technologies and incorporate them as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's and/or Master degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in mechanical design, product development, prototyping, or electromechanical systems.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks is required, including 3D modeling, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings.
- Demonstrated experience independently designing, building, testing, and troubleshooting functional mechanical or electromechanical prototypes.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals, materials, machine design, and dimensional tolerancing.
- Hands-on experience with prototyping and manufacturing processes, including CNC machining, 3D printing, and mechanical assembly.
- Working knowledge of engineering drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and mechanical component selection.
- Experience with programming, data acquisition, and instrument control using Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, technical communication, and documentation skills.
- Demonstrated initiative, critical thinking, and ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary R&D environment.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, resource-constrained R&D environment, collaborating across disciplines, and handling ambiguity.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in one or more of the following areas is desirable but not required:
- Medical devices, laboratory instrumentation, diagnostic systems, or scientific equipment.
- Precision mechanisms, miniature mechanical systems, mechatronics, robotics, or automation.
- Integration of motors, actuators, sensors, and motion-control components.
- Microfluidic cartridges, pumps, valves, tubing, and fluid-handling systems.
- Injection molding, polymer materials, sealing, adhesives, and bonding technologies.
- Finite element analysis (FEA), thermal analysis, or engineering simulation.
- Product development, DFM/DFA, and transitioning prototypes to manufacturing.
- Familiarity with applying artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), or computational tools to engineering design, analysis, and R&D workflows.
