Job Summary
The Environmental Services Technician (Hazmat Technician) supports industrial, commercial, and emergency response operations involving hazardous and non-hazardous materials. This position performs hands-on field work including industrial cleaning, waste handling, remediation support, and emergency response activities while maintaining strict compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform industrial cleaning, vacuuming, hydro-blasting, tank cleaning, and confined space work
- Assist with hazardous and non-hazardous waste identification, packaging, labeling, and transportation
- Support spill response, environmental remediation, and emergency response operations
- Operate equipment such as excavators, backhoes pressure washers, pumps, and hand tools
- Conduct site setup, containment, and decontamination zones
- Follow all safety procedures, including PPE, JSA/JHA, and site-specific health & safety plans
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, and team members on job sites
- Perform routine equipment inspections and basic maintenance
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant work environment
- Represent the company professionally at all times
Safety & Compliance
- Comply with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and state environmental regulations
- Participate in safety meetings, training, and drills
- Stop work authority if unsafe conditions exist
- Properly use and care for PPE and safety equipment
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in all weather conditions
- Ability to wear respiratory protection and pass medical clearance
- Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred or willingness to obtain)
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening
- Strong work ethic and reliability
Preferred Qualifications
- HAZWOPER 40-hour (or 24-hour with current 8-hour refresher)
- Confined Space Entry
- First Aid / CPR
- Forklift or equipment certifications
- Prior experience in industrial cleaning, environmental services, demolition, or construction
- CDL Class B or A with tanker endorsement
Physical Requirements
- Lift up to 50 pounds
- Climb ladders and work at heights
- Work in confined spaces and industrial environments
- Wear full PPE including respirators, Tyvek suits, and chemical-resistant gear
- No Facial Hair
Work Schedule
- Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and on-call emergency response
- May have to work Holidays
- Overtime and travel may be required
