II. Job Summary: |
The Production Worker Trainee position at Second Chance, a mattress and battery recycling facility, is a transitional employment opportunity designed to assist people with barriers to employment to create and maintain a steady employment history and gain valuable job skills in a supportive work environment. Position involves loading and unloading trucks, dismantling mattresses and box springs using hand tools, some machine operating, forklift driving and other duties as assigned to meet customer demand.

The Production Worker Trainee performs a wide range of duties including but not limited to the following:
- Mattress Production:
- Mattress Dismantling
- Box Spring Prep and Dismantling
- Steel Baling
- Material Baling
- Material Handling
- Forklift Driver
- Truck Assistant
- Loading mattresses and other materials onto trucks
- Unloading trucks
- Assist with shipping/receiving tasks as assigned
- Attend personal and professional development meetings, trainings and other events as assigned
- Other duties and tasks necessary in order for the agency to meet its mission.

IV. Position Requirements: |
Education and Experience
- HS diploma/GED preferred but not required.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Ability to work effectively in a mission-driven agency whose clients and staff reflect significant diversity with respect to race, ethnicity, gender, orientation, socio-economic status, nationality and religion.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally, to achieve the goals of the organization.
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques.
- Ability to take direction and complete job tasks as assigned.
- Ability to work Monday – Friday, generally between 7:00am to 4:00pm, and occasional Saturdays
- Desire to work hard and improve job skills
- Ability to lift up to 70 pounds repeatedly throughout an 8 hour shift
V. Working Conditions and Environment: |
Enterprise: The building is multiple floors, fully accessible and is smoke-free. Work will include significant lifting and other physical activity. Working hours are generally Monday through Friday, 7 am-3:30 pm or 7:30 am-4 pm, but will include occasional extended and Saturday hours. The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate, but frequently loud.
