Job Summary
The Large Padmount Repair Technician is responsible for repairing, testing, and supporting maintenance activities for large padmount transformers and related power distribution equipment. This role focuses on ensuring repairs meet quality, safety, and performance standards prior to equipment leaving the workstation. The technician works independently and collaboratively to meet production goals while maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment. The position requires hands-on technical skill, attention to detail, and adherence to company safety and operating procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Repair large padmount transformers and provide support for repairs of other power distribution equipment.
- Repair single-phase and three-phase padmount transformers as assigned.
- Use basic math skills to calculate transformer amperage and ratios.
- Perform quality checks on repaired units prior to release from the workstation.
- Estimate repair costs for single-phase padmount transformers.
- Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material-handling equipment as required.
- Maintain responsibility for tools, equipment, and materials assigned to the workstation.
- Ensure the workstation is kept safe, clean, and orderly at all times.
- Meet repair goals and productivity expectations established by the supervisor.
- Work collaboratively with other associates to achieve departmental objectives.
- Provide repair support to other areas as assigned.
The ideal candidate will embody the following characteristics and possess the knowledge, skills and abilities listed below:
- Honest, trustworthy, reliable and hardworking.
- Physical ability to perform medium work, exerting up to 50lbs of force occasionally and/or in excess of 20lbs force frequently.
- Comfortable working in extreme heat and cold.
- Prior transformer repair or electrical equipment experience not required but will be considered.
- Basic welding skills.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend written instructions.
- Basic arithmetic and math calculation skills.
- Ability to use hand tools, electrical meters, and gauges.
- Working knowledge of shop safety practices and procedures.
- Ability to operate or learn to operate material-handling equipment.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to follow safety, environmental, and standard operating procedures.
