What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head of Content position at Emerald Cut Productions?
ORIGINAL DIGITAL ENTERTAINMENT — NOT SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGEMENT
HEAD OF DIGITAL / EXECUTIVE PRODUCER — DIGITAL ORIGINALS, FRANCHISES & AUDIENCE GROWTHEmerald Cut Productions is seeking a senior Executive Producer-level digital content leader with demonstrated success creating, developing and scaling original digital entertainment properties.
This is not a social-media management, community-management or digital-marketing position.
We are looking for an experienced creative executive/producer who understands how to build character-driven, personality-led, narrative and emotionally engaging digital IP into recognizable, expandable entertainment properties — and who can use audience behavior and performance data to determine what should be created next.
The right person will combine strong creative instincts with genuine audience-growth experience. We are not looking simply for someone who has posted content for major brands or managed large social accounts. We want someone who has helped create, shape, program and grow original entertainment properties.
Emerald Cut Productions is currently in a pre-funding development stage.
This is an earned-but-deferred contractor engagement. Authorized and accepted pre-funding services are credited at an agreed professional rate under a written agreement.
Once an applicable project is funded and moves into production, compensation for ongoing production-period services is intended to be incorporated into the approved project budget and paid currently at the agreed professional rate, or an agreed portion of that rate, depending upon the particular engagement and available production budget.
Previously earned deferred compensation remains separately tracked under the applicable written agreement.
Depending upon the particular engagement, additional project-specific economics such as backend participation, bonuses or other incentives may also be negotiated and documented separately.
Please apply only if you are comfortable working under a pre-funding deferred-compensation structure.
THE ROLEECP is developing a mixed slate that includes:
- character-driven digital personalities and virtual/digital IP;
- personality-led commentary and entertainment;
- pet and family-centered storytelling;
- documentary properties;
- longer-form digital programming;
- podcast and other media-extension opportunities;
- and additional franchiseable digital entertainment concepts.
We are looking for an Executive Producer who can help determine how these properties should grow across short-form, longer-form, live, podcast, streaming and other formats without forcing every property into the same model.
The successful candidate should be able to move comfortably between creative development and audience strategy.
Responsibilities may include:
- originating and developing repeatable digital-original formats;
- identifying the strongest creative and commercial positioning for individual properties;
- developing character- and personality-driven programming;
- building programming calendars and testing strategies;
- supervising producers, writers, editors and other creative contributors as needed;
- analyzing audience behavior, retention, watch time, completion rates, engagement and other relevant performance indicators;
- identifying why particular content succeeds or fails;
- using performance data to make subsequent programming decisions;
- developing platform-specific strategies rather than simply reposting identical content everywhere;
- expanding successful digital properties into longer-form entertainment, podcasts, documentaries, licensing or other media opportunities when appropriate;
- helping determine when a property is ready for expansion rather than prematurely forcing it into another format;
- and taking meaningful strategic and executional responsibility off the Founder’s desk.
We want someone who can say:
“Here is what we created. Here is what we tested. Here is what the audience did. Here is what I learned. Here is what we should do next.”
This is not primarily a role for:
- social-media account management;
- community management;
- influencer marketing;
- paid-media buying;
- brand posting;
- trend-chasing;
- meme production;
- or generic digital marketing.
Experience in those areas may be useful, but it is not sufficient.
We are specifically interested in candidates who have helped build original entertainment properties, recurring series, creator/personality brands, character-based IP or digital-native franchises.
We value people who understand why highly shareable or viral content works, but who can also build audiences around story, character, emotion and sustained attachment rather than relying only on trends or disposable viral moments.
Relevant backgrounds may include:
- digital-originals divisions;
- digital entertainment networks;
- creator-led entertainment companies;
- streaming or network digital divisions;
- personality or character-driven media brands;
- social-first original series;
- virtual or AI-generated characters;
- creator franchises;
- comedy/commentary properties;
- pet/family entertainment;
- podcasts;
- or other audience-driven entertainment businesses.
Experience in the pet space is a plus, but it is not required.
What matters more is demonstrated ability to build audience around compelling original IP.
Applicants should be prepared to provide 2–3 specific examples of digital properties, channels, series or franchises they personally helped grow.
For each example, please be prepared to explain:
- the property or channel;
- the audience or performance level when you became involved;
- what you personally created, changed or implemented;
- the platforms involved;
- the timeframe;
- the resulting audience growth or performance improvement;
- and the specific metrics that demonstrate the impact.
Examples may include subscriber/follower growth, views, watch time, retention, completion rate, engagement, revenue, conversion or other meaningful performance measures.
We are interested in your personal contribution, not simply the overall success of a company, network or team with which you were affiliated.
The right candidate will be:
- highly creative;
- commercially aware;
- analytical without being creatively rigid;
- comfortable challenging assumptions with evidence;
- able to distinguish strategy from personal preference;
- collaborative;
- reliable;
- responsive;
- able to work independently;
- comfortable operating in an entrepreneurial production-company environment;
- and capable of taking ownership rather than waiting to be told every next step.
ECP welcomes strong creative disagreement when it moves a property forward. We also expect the Executive Producer to understand and respect the established identity and strategic parameters of each property while helping strengthen its execution and growth.
