Job Summary

The Packaging and Maintenance Lead’s primary responsibilities will be fulfilling the daily packaging requirements as dictated by the production schedule. Additionally, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and spare parts management for all equipment.

The Packaging and Maintenance Lead will work close with the production team to execute production schedules, operate packaging machinery, and the cleaning and sanitation of the packaging equipment, the packaging area, and upkeep of the packaging machinery. The P&M Lead is the leader of the canning line and is responsible for lining up the packaging technicians and ensuring the effective use of time and resources in each workstation. Overall facilitating the daily success of the packaging operations. The P&M lead will be responsible for their own safety, ensuring the safety of their peers, and working closely with all production departments to ensure the highest product quality.

With regards to maintenance, it is the expectation that the P&M Lead develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules, manage spare parts inventories and ensure all systems operate optimally and without downtime.

This position is based of repetitive, iterative jobs and is well suited for an individual who takes pride in minor details and understands their impact on the success of Emerald Canning partners production. This position is full-time and will require the individual to occasionally work odd hours and overnight shifts. The position will report directly to the Plant Manager.

Responsibilities and Duties

The following list of essential job duties is not all-inclusive; the P&M Lead is required to perform other duties as directed by management.

  • Working as a ECP team member and line leader in producing a high volume of quality product in a safe and efficient manner
  • Compliance to all safety programs and the constant practice of safe work techniques
  • Learn, understand and operate packaging equipment and machinery in accordance to the process instructions and/or standard operation procedures (SOP’s)
  • Act as the line supervisor for the canning line. Line-up the packaging technicians on a per-shift bases, as delegated by the Plant Manager, to support the success of the canning line
  • Performing basic preventative maintenance on all packaging tools, equipment, and assets
  • Filling out all production logs, maintenance logs, and accurately communicating all machinery concerns, work done and completed on assets, and other changes completed to management
  • Using all packaging tools, equipment, and assets to their designed intent
  • Ability to use the forklift safely, responsibly, and efficiently while staying up to date with forklift training and certifications
  • Keep the packaging areas and workspaces clean and organized
  • Work in tandem with Packaging Technicians, Packaging Line Operator, Supervisors, Managers, and other ECP personal
  • Regular attendance, arriving on time, in order to work packaging shifts as scheduled by the packaging manager
  • Ensure finished product, packaging materials, and other consumable goods are safely and neatly stored in their appropriate area, and logged accurately each day
  • Help-out as needed in all other parts of the ECP production building (Team Player)
  • Count and log all consumed packaging materials, destroyed materials, and defective (failed quality) goods each day. Relay counts to management and predict packaging material shortages based off production schedule
  • Complete all paperwork associated with each duty to 100% accuracy
  • Assist co-workers and train employees on every piece of equipment the Packaging Line Operator works on
  • Communicate to the production team any inventory shortages or other potential issues that may occur
  • Maintain a positive attitude and act in accordance with ECP company goals
  • Make a positive contribution to the team through attitude, ideas, and work ethic
  • Always conduct ones-self in a professional and cooperative manner
  • Ensure that your time is being used efficiently and effectively every day
  • Meeting or exceeding production volume goals as established by management

Qualifications, Skills & Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Extremely high level of attention to detail
  • Self-motivated with a positive attitude and ongoing sense of urgency
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Excellent understanding of the principles of ECP production
  • Proven ability to work well with others
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong overall understanding of safety procedures, regulations and requirements
  • Must be able to lift full cases (50 pounds) frequently for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to remain on your feet for an entire shift

Working Conditions

  • The work for this position will be divided between a climate-controlled, smoke-free office environment, outside and in other business locations. Normal outdoor weather and travel hazards apply.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud at times requiring ear protection.
  • Work will be performed from eight hours per day, five to six days per week. Weekend work may be required for a few busy in-season weekends.
  • The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold and extreme heat. Eye protection is required around moving parts.
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and/or use a computer.
