Role Description The Applied Chiller Technician is a full-time, on-site role based in Pompton Plains, NJ. This role is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and commissioning applied and process chillers, including centrifugal, screw, scroll, and other complex HVAC equipment. Day-to-day tasks include performing scheduled preventive maintenance, diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues, replacing components, and optimizing system performance and efficiency. The technician will interpret technical documentation, work with controls and instrumentation, and document all work performed in service reports and maintenance logs. The role also involves coordinating with dispatch, project managers, and clients, complying with safety standards and company policies, and providing professional, customer-focused service on-site.

Qualifications
- Strong technical skills in applied chiller systems, including troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of centrifugal, screw, and other commercial/industrial chillers.
- Proficiency in HVAC systems, including refrigeration cycles, pumps, cooling towers, piping, and related mechanical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and equipment specifications.
- Experience with electrical and control systems for chillers, including starters, VFDs, sensors, and basic building automation interfaces.
- Solid diagnostic and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on system performance, efficiency, and reliability.
- Effective communication and customer service skills to interact professionally with clients, supervisors, and team members.
- Ability to work independently in the field, manage time effectively, and maintain accurate service documentation.
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a technical, vocational, or apprenticeship program in HVAC/R or mechanical systems preferred.
- Current EPA refrigerant handling certification required; additional manufacturer or industry certifications (e.g., chiller OEM training) are a plus.
- Ability to meet physical demands of the role, including lifting, climbing, working in mechanical rooms and rooftop environments, and using required tools and equipment safely.
