Job Summary
The Shipping & Receiving clerk is responsible for the performance of service and assistance supporting facility and customer operations. The Shipping and Receiving Clerk is responsible for performing manual and clerical work in the receiving, stocking and shipping of widely diversified supplies and equipment in a shipping / receiving setting. Responsible for assisting in the receiving, unpacking, stocking or delivering of any supplied, packages, mail and equipment. Responsible for coordinating shipments to other client sites
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Operate lifts, scales, hand trucks, dollies, and other equipment used in receiving and stocking activities
Unload incoming shipments, check that the correct and complete order has been received, inventory or tag on all items of equipment, and make deliveries to the appropriate department or stocking locations. Prepare and mail proper paperwork and or call the vendor if there is a discrepancy
Receive, process and check merchandise and verify the correctness of the shipment against the purchase order
Prepare forms and maintain records, dealing with discrepancies and damaged merchandise
Prepare shipments for return to vendors, deliver shipments to recipients, and pick up shipments from departments that need to be returned
Regular contact with departmental personnel regarding the status of ordered merchandise for the delivering and picking up of merchandise
Regular contact with the vendors and delivery drivers regarding shipment discrepancies
May perform other duties as assigned, with potential overnight travel.
Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma
Business Experience
2 to 5 years; or equivalent education and training
Licenses/Certifications
Forklift License, Boom Lift License
Computer Skills
Will have or acquire working knowledge of computers and software including, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and UPS/FEDEX. Must be an average proficiency in computer skills
Language Skills
English
Written and Oral Communication Skills
Ability to read and comprehend instructions including, but not limited to, safety policies and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in individual and small group situations. Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with both management and field level employees.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneels, crouch, or crawl; talk, here, taste and smell. The employee must be able to lift and or move up to 50 pounds often. Ability to operate warehouse lift equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus, determine full range of colors in work areas, drawings, and mapping. ability to move about commercial properties and construction sites, sometimes through tight passageways and corridors.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee could be exposed to moving mechanical parts and may work in high precarious places; the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; Outdoor weather conditions; extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The employee may work in an environment, where the following safety equipment are needed; steel toecap shoes, hearing protection, hardhats, eye protection, and hair protection. Abide by all safety guidelines, including OSHA regulations, lock-out/tag-out, etc. Work schedule can be affected by production, downtime and many other variables. Candidate should be extremely flexible with non-customary schedules and weekend work. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate or low.
