EMCO Technologies is seeking a hands-on Desktop Technician-Expert Level, to provide operational IT support for our ExxonMobil customer at their Clinton Research Facility. This role focuses on supporting, maintaining, and modernizing lab computer systems that interface with scientific instruments and research applications. The environment includes a mix of legacy and modern systems, non-standard configurations, and long-lifecycle hardware that requires careful troubleshooting and documentation.This is not a typical corporate IT role. Success in this position requires comfort working with older operating systems, specialized hardware, and systems that cannot always be patched or upgraded, while still aligning with enterprise security and process standards.Key ResponsibilitiesSupport and administer LabLAN and non-domain user accounts, including local system configurationsMaintain and support lab computers connected to research instruments, including preventative maintenance and upgradesParticipate in and support domain migration projects, moving systems from a legacy domain to a secure Research domainCollaborate with internal teams, external vendors, and project stakeholders on lab IT initiativesPerform inventory management and reconciliation of lab hardware and systems (ongoing/evergreen)Support application virtualization and VDI initiatives, reducing reliance on proxy systems where feasibleTroubleshoot and maintain systems using non-standard Windows configurations (kiosk mode, test mode, SMBv1, etc.)Document configurations, procedures, issues, and resolutions in alignment with XOM standardsAssist with long-term process improvement and creation of lab-specific IT proceduresRequired QualificationsStrong experience supporting multiple versions of Windows, including Windows XP, 7, 10, and 11Comfort working with legacy and non-standard system configurations, including:Kiosk modeWindows test mode (driver signature enforcement disabled)Legacy protocols such as SMBv1Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including:Internal vs. external IP addressingDHCP vs. static IPsSystems with multiple NICs and proxy configurationsHands-on hardware experience, including:PCI card installation/removalSerial and parallel adaptersDriver configuration for instrument-connected devicesExperience remotely managing systems via Active Directory and Remote DesktopStrong troubleshooting mindset with the ability to research, test, and validate solutions in complex environmentsClear communication skills and a strong customer-service orientationStrong documentation skillsAbility to read and understand scripts (PowerShell, batch, shell, etc.); ability to write basic scripts is a strong plusA proactive mindset with the ability to own systems and build processes, not just follow themHighly Desired / Preferred ExperienceExperience in research, lab, manufacturing, healthcare, or regulated environmentsExposure to virtualized infrastructure, including VDI, VMware, or similar platformsExperience supporting systems with long lifecycle constraints or limited upgrade pathsFamiliarity with vendor-supported scientific or industrial applicationsTop 3 Technologies / Skills for SuccessLegacy Windows & Hardware SupportExperience supporting Windows environments as far back as XP, including legacy protocols and instrument-connected hardware (PCI, serial, parallel).Virtualization / VDIExperience supporting or testing virtualized desktops or applications (e.g., VMware, VDI).Remote Systems ManagementProven ability to manage and troubleshoot systems using Active Directory and Remote Desktop.
