About Our Studio
Embers Apothecary is a candle-making studio in Chicago’s Printers Row, bringing people together through creativity, fragrance, and shared experiences. Our daily classes and private events are a place to gather, laugh, celebrate, and create something personal. We’re looking for someone who loves that kind of atmosphere and wants to help make it happen for our guests.
About the Role
We’re adding to our team for our busiest season, now through February! As a Candle Consultant, you’ll help guests explore scents, blend their own fragrance, and create a candle they’re excited to take home. You’ll also keep the fun going with games, trivia, and other planned activities while their candles set.
This is a hands-on, social role where your warmth and personality help shape the experience. If you love starting conversations, getting a group involved, and making people feel welcome, we’d love to meet you. We’ll teach you the candle-making part.
What You’ll Do
- Welcome guests and help them feel comfortable and ready to create.
- Guide guests through choosing a vessel, exploring fragrances, and blending their custom scent.
- Support safe, accurate candle-making and oversee the pouring station.
- Host planned activities such as trivia, karaoke, and games while candles set.
- Give guests attentive support while helping classes run smoothly and stay on schedule.
- Prepare supplies, clean tools and workspaces, and reset the studio between classes.
What You’ll Bring
- A natural love of people and conversation. You greet guests warmly, start conversations, and offer help without waiting to be approached or prompted.
- Confidence leading groups. You’re comfortable addressing a full class, giving instructions, and keeping people engaged.
- Reliability and initiative. You arrive ready to work, pay attention to details, and notice what needs doing.
- A willingness to learn and pitch in, from fragrance blending to setup and cleanup.
- Comfort working around fragrances, standing for extended periods, and handling items weighing over 45 pounds.
Customer service, hospitality, retail, or event experience is a plus. No candle-making experience required.
Important Details
- Seasonal part-time position now through February, with the opportunity to continue afterward.
- Typically 4–18 hours per week, depending on bookings.
- Starting pay of $17.05/hour, plus tips that typically add $2–$6/hour. Tip earnings vary based on bookings and shifts worked.
- Evening and weekend availability required, including availability during Thanksgiving and Christmas weeks.
- Training provided in candle-making, fragrance blending, and hosting our guest experiences.
