What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Claims Examiner (REMOTE) position at eMaxx Assurance Group of Companies, Inc.?
Seeking a detail-oriented, strategic thinker to join our captive insurance team as a Senior Claims Examiner. This is not a traditional carrier role - this position is designed for someone who can think creatively, challenge conventional approaches, and partner closely with insureds to deliver thoughtful, effective claim solutions.
In this role, you will manage complex Commercial Auto and General Liability claims, including exposures related to Physical Damage, Third-Party Property Damage, Bodily Injury, First Party Property and Excess layers. You will play a critical role in driving fair, timely, and well-reasoned outcomes while balancing risk, cost, and client relationships.
The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, strong analytical skills, and sound judgment. Just as important, you excel at collaboration - working seamlessly with internal teams, insureds, brokers, and external partners to achieve optimal results.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Independently manage a portfolio of commercial auto & general liability claims, with varying levels of severity, from first notice through resolution
- Investigate, evaluate, and adjust claims involving Physical Damage, Third-Party Property Damage, Bodily Injury, and Excess
- Work collaboratively with our First Party Property Team to resolve claims.
- Oversee and resolve total loss claims, including valuation, settlement, and stakeholder coordination
- Determine if subrogation and/or risk transfer exists and initiate recovery efforts at the direction of the client.
- Perform detailed coverage analysis, liability assessments and thorough investigations
- Take a strategic, “outside-the-box” approach to resolving claims, identifying opportunities to reduce exposure and improve outcomes
- Establish and actively manage reserves with a high degree of accuracy and foresight
- Manage litigated and high-exposure claims, working closely with defense counsel and internal stakeholders
- Negotiate settlements within authority limits and provide recommendations on larger exposures
- Ensure compliance with state regulations, company guidelines, and best practices
- Maintain clear and timely documentation of claim activity
- Partner closely with insureds and internal teams, reflecting the collaborative nature of a captive environment
- Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced adjusters as needed
The above reflects management’s definition of essential functions for this position but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned. The above responsibilities are representative only; management may modify the duties and responsibilities to this position at any time.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- 10 years of experience in Property & Casualty claims or insurance operations. Experience in a collaborative team-based environment is a plus.
- Familiarity with commercial transportation policies, insurance law, and litigation procedures.
- Maintain Independent Adjuster License(s) as required by residency.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with claims or TPA systems preferred.
- Strong communication skills (both written and verbal), excellent organizational ability, and a high degree of attention to detail.
- Proven ability to prioritize tasks and work independently while maintaining a team-oriented attitude.
- Ability to work under pressure and maintain a professional demeanor encompassing the Company’s vision and values.
Work from Home Requirements:
- An internet connection, via cable or fiber, that can support 300Mbps down and 10Mbps up. A wired (Ethernet) connection to the internet is preferred for best performance.
- A workstation, desk, or table that is ergonomically suitable for the employee’s physical needs, (standing, sitting, etc.). This workspace must support two, 24” displays, a laptop, docking station, keyboard, and mouse, at minimum.
Teleworkers must be reachable while teleworking during the employee’s regularly scheduled hours. Methods of communication include email account, voice calls, and messages using company-issued iPhone, Microsoft Office Teams, and other appropriate department tools and equipment. It is expected that teleworkers will attend all virtual scheduled meetings with their cameras on as much as possible. Additionally, any calls and/or voicemails will be answered in a timely manner.
