School Bus Driver

Job Description

A School Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting students to and from school, as well as to various school-related activities and field trips. This role requires a responsible and dependable individual with excellent driving skills and a commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of students.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Student Transportation

• Safely transport students to and from school according to assigned routes and schedules.
• Transport students to field trips, sporting events, and other school-related activities as required.
• Ensure the safety of all passengers by following traffic laws and school transportation policies.

2. Vehicle Maintenance and Inspection

• Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus to ensure it is in safe operating condition.
• Report any mechanical issues or needed repairs to the Transportation Supervisor promptly.
• Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the bus interior.

3. Student Supervision and Safety

• Ensure students follow safety rules and conduct expectations while on the bus.
• Assist students with boarding and exiting the bus safely.
• Manage student behavior on the bus, addressing issues promptly and reporting serious concerns to school administrators.

4. Route Management

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date knowledge of assigned routes and schedules.
• Adjust routes as necessary due to road conditions, traffic, or other unforeseen circumstances.
• Communicate effectively with the Transportation Supervisor about any route changes or delays.

5. Record Keeping

• Maintain accurate records of bus mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance activities.
• Complete required reports and documentation related to student transportation.

6. Communication and Collaboration

• Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff regarding transportation . matters.
• Collaborate with school administrators and the Transportation Supervisor to ensure efficient and safe transportation services.
• Participate in training sessions and safety meetings as required.

Qualifications:

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certification: Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with School Bus (S) and Passenger (P) endorsements.
• Experience: Previous experience as a bus driver or in a similar role is highly desirable.

Skills:

• Excellent driving skills and a clean driving record.
• Strong knowledge of traffic laws and school transportation policies.
• Ability to manage student behavior and ensure their safety.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Dependability and punctuality.

Working Conditions:

• Primarily works inside a school bus.
• Must be able to handle various weather conditions and traffic situations.
• Requires sitting for extended periods and occasional lifting of light equipment or supplies.
• May involve working early mornings and late afternoons.
