Latchkey Supervisor – Elmwood Elementary School

Hours based on student need

 

Current Latchkey schedule: 7:00 a.m. – start of school (elementaries only) and dismissal until 6:00 p.m. (all buildings)

 

Job Goal: Ensure effective supervision of staff and students in the Latchkey program, maintaining compliance with LARA requirements and district standards; Maintain accurate LARA-required records and Latchkey billing documentation.                                                

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 19 years old at time of application.
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • OR a minimum of 6 months of experience AND 6 semester hours, 9 CEUS, or a combination equal to 90clock hours of coursework in child care administration, early childhood education, child development, youth development, or a child-related field. Up to 30 hours of training from MiRegistry may be used to meet these requirements.
  • OR a minimum of 3 months of experience AND a valid child development associate credential, Montessori credential, Michigan youth development or credential, or associate degree in a child-related field.
  • OR an associate degree or higher in any field of study AND 15 clock hours of school-age training.
  • Must be cleared by federal background check.
  • Evidence of current Pediatric CPR/First Aid training.
  • Willingness to adhere to and demonstrated compliance with all LARA licensing requirements which may include but is not limited to initial and annual Health and Safety training, 18 hours of professional development hours per year, etc. 
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and internet-based management platforms (e.g. FMX, Red Rover, etc.).
  • Such alternatives to the above as the Superintendent or his/her designee may find appropriate and acceptable.

Duties & Responsibilities Include:

  • Supervise site staff to ensure consistent implementation of program standards and a safe, inclusive environment for all children.
  • Oversee daily operations of the Latchkey program, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and responsiveness to student needs.
  • Provide direct supervision of children, promoting their safety, well-being, and developmental growth through structured and engaging activities.
  • Monitor and evaluate staff performance regularly; provide feedback, coaching, and support to promote professional growth and accountability.
  • Assess program effectiveness through observation, feedback, and data collection; recommend improvements to enhance quality and outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with all licensing regulations, health and safety protocols, and internal policies. Regularly update the food allergy reference folders and ensure emergency medication is transferred to/from a secure storage area in the Latchkey space prior to and at the end of each Latchkey session.
  • Maintain LARA-compliant staff-to-student ratios; manage staff schedules and coordinate coverage for absences.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for families and staff, addressing concerns professionally and fostering open communication.
  • Resolve day-to-day issues involving parents, children, and staff in a courteous and solution-oriented manner.
  • Collect, record, and deposit service fees; issue receipts and maintain accurate financial documentation. Provide follow-up communication and reminders to parents with bills unpaid longer than two weeks.
  • Maintain daily attendance records for children and staff; submit required documentation to the Special Services office.
  • Plan and supervise safe, age-appropriate indoor and outdoor activities that support children's development.
  • The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the district.
  • Employee shall properly implement Board Policy 3122, Policy 4122, and Policy 2260 on non-discrimination and shall comply with Federal and State laws and regulations, particularly Part 1 104 of Section 504 Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (34 CFR) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Other duties as assigned by Superintendent/designee .

Terms of Employment:            Classification I – 5 – 7 hours per day based on student need.


Compensation:                        Entrance Level: $17.00; Maximum level: $19.89


Benefits and compensation in accordance with Paraprofessional Collective Bargaining Agreement.
